May Meeting of Greenore/Cooley Fisherman's Association

There was a broad agenda for discussion at the May meeting of Greenore/Cooley Fisherman's Association

A special meeting of Greenore/Cooley Fisherman’s Association (GCFA) took place at The Farm, Greenore, on Wednesday 4 May 2005 starting at 7.30 p.m.

The minutes of the February meeting were read and adopted.

Arising from the minutes correspondence from Joan Martin of Louth County Council was dealt with and the secretary, Sean Crudden, was instructed to reply to Ms Martin thanking her for her e-mail and raising the question of possible safety measures which might be undertaken at the seaward side of the "new" promenade in Greenore.

The secretary was also instructed to write to Liz O’Donnell TD asking her to find out (possibly by means of a parliamentary question) how it was proposed to police Carlingford Lough under the terms of the proposed new fisheries bill dealing with the Lough. It was felt at the meeting that there was no clear jurisdiction on Carlingford Lough and that GCFA had at least as much right to jurisdiction there as anyone else.

Also arising from the minutes a letter from GROUNDWORK (NI) was read. It said a recent application to them on behalf of CEHG for a grant to develop "The Cutting" in Greenore had been unsuccessful.

The chairperson, Most Rev. Dr. Michael D Hynes OMA, undertook to write to the County Manager about "The Cutting" in Greenore and also about an area of land near the village known as "Firemount."

The chairperson described The North Louth Area Forum. It has 12 elected members and meets quarterly. It was set up by Louth County Council and it links up with The County Community and Voluntary Forum on which it has approximately 7 delegates. All information filters back to top level. It is a voice of the people. It is voluntary, an open house for people in the area and a place for
discussion. There will be a meeting of the North Louth Area Forum soon the chairperson concluded.

The monthly meetings since January of The County Community and Voluntary Forum (on which the chairperson and the secretary of Greenore/Cooley Fisherman’s Association are delegates) were reported on in detail by the chairperson - particularly those parts of the business of the forum which concerned Sean Crudden, the fisherman’s delegate.

The chairperson reported that the GCFA’s web-site is in course of redevelopment and work-in-progress can be viewed on http://clik.to/greenorecooley

The next meeting of GCFA was fixed for Wednesday 4 September 2005 starting at 7.30 p.m. in Bellurgan.
