news report

an accurate reconstruction, based entirely on true* testimony by reliable** witnesses * not necessarily true It was a warm sunny day on May 1st in Dublin. Head Truncheon O’Toole glimpsed worryingly out the window of Garda HQ, Phoenix Park. It was a perfect day, perfect for trouble…He thought back to the previous day’s phonecall from Special Branch. One of their crack hackers had accessed a crazed lefty website known ominously as ‘indymedia’ and found a reference to an Anarchist Picnic for the Mayday. O’Toole had immediately cancelled all leave for the foreseeable future and attempted to place the Army Ranger Wing on full alert. He had sent three of his finest men out on a recon mission, to locate the picnic and report back with full details, avoiding any confrontation. |

I pay my taxes so that these gardai at least control the level of crime and thuggery on our streets (unfortunately they cannot eliminate it completely). I do not pay for them to stand around in a park watching a couple of dozen people eating sandwiches.
They should be deployed properly to keep an eye on the thugs who rob old people, and on the drug pushers who seem to be able to sell their wares openly on the streets.
We need a proper minister for justice who will see that they are deployed properly and not misused in this way.
Don't suppose anyone has a photo of the horsey gardy, those centaurs of crime-fighting?
