Diversity kitsch is all around us. But as the grim fact forcefully confronts us that some immigrants hate their hosts so much they want to murder and rape them, David McGrogan senses that it is at last falling from favour.

Shell in Glengad: A Photo Story

Photos of the Glengad part of Shell's development in Erris, Co.Mayo.

This is the other side of the estuary from Rossport, the photos of which are here:
http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=69675

Shell plans to commence work on this beach on the 31st of May. If this will be affected by their difficulties in starting work in Rossport (local opposition and court cases) and in Ballinaboy (technical problems) is not known, but is not thought likely.

Here on the beach the pipeline will land, before crossing over to Rossport and continuing to the refinery site at Ballinaboy.

This is not your standard Bord Gais pipeline, the biggest of them is at 70 bar pressure, this one at 345 bar, and the gas is untreated, odourless. Normally the treatment and refining process is carried out at sea, or as close to it as possible, and such pipelines do not go into peoples' front gardens, as this one almost does.

Moreover waste from the refinery is to be pumped back out to Broadhaven Bay.

'Irish Times Studio' maps I've seen in that paper, mention 'Dooncarton Landfall' but not Glengad beach.
Same place?
Is there a compound built at Dooncarton?

I know the june bank holiday is when most people can come to Mayo, but what about pressing on there IN TIME for Shell's planned invasion? instead of turning up days later. They intend to start destorying the locality on the 31st May, I reckon we should be there then. Not just for a 'display' of solidarity when it's more convenient.

Important and useful info, I'm with you all the way but.....
......."Pipeline will land", "pipeline comes on shore" ?!
It ain't there yet and maybe it never will be. It's important to know what Shell's plans are but please let's keep the language we use in tune with our intentions to stop this from happening.
There are two conflicting visions of the future here, let's be clear about what ours is and let the words we use help to create that.
Respect, and see you in Mayo

The dark patch of rock in the first two photos is the exact spot upon which the offshore pipeline comes on land.

That is the dark patch in the centre of the photo, this is the landfall location

These are photos of sandmartin nests in the small cliffs on the Glengad beach. They make those little holes in the earth to nest in.
