Stand Up For Your Rights

Minutes of 2nd meeting

Next meeting Thursday 21st April 7pm WSM office - all welcome

Stand Up For Your Rights
Minutes of 2nd meeting held in WSM office on Thurs. 14th April
Present:- Gregor (WSM), James (WSM), Oisin (WSM), Ray (IWU), Stephen (ISN), Dave, Emma (WSM), Niall, Pepe (WSM)
Minutes taken by Gregor

· Stephen brought along draft of information for leaflet. After discussion this was agreed, Ray is to double-check the info., Dave and Gregor to do lay-out and send it to E-mail list for approval by others. It was agreed that we would do A4 folded-over leaflet – front will have ‘Stand Up For Your Rights’ in various languages (Oisin to co-ordinate getting this done), inside will have information and back will list unions and other organisations/groups where people can get help
· James agreed to do additional paragraph for leaflet which will be hard hitting and political – aimed at getting people to ‘stand up for your rights’. This can also be adapted for leaflet asking people to get involved in the campaign.
· It was agreed that the following unions will be included on the leaflet – IWU, ATGWU, MANDATE, SIPTU – Stephen to contact them to ensure that they are agreeable and that they will respond to queries.
· Other organisations to be included on leaflet – Residents against Racism (Pepe to contact them), Migrant Workers Centre (to be contacted by Ray), Citizens Information Centres, Free Legal Advice Centres
· There was a discussion about whether political organisations involved in the campaign (ie WSM and ISN) should be named on leaflet. A majority felt that they should not, but that links to these organisations can be included on the website – James reported that he had set up a website at getupstandup.tk and that www.indymedia.ie should be included as well
· It was agreed that we would organise a ‘Get up Stand Up’ block on the DCTU Mayday march (meeting Parnell Square 2:30pm April 30th) and that we would organise a leafleting session after the march – the idea being that we would march as a block from the Mayday march (aiming to have left by 4pm), choose a route and have a noisy, colourful demo which will leaflet workers in shops along the route. This route will be agreed at the next meeting. We will also agree a meeting spot for a short street meeting at the end of our action, and have a follow-up action (maybe two weeks later) organised which can be advertised at this. All of this to be finalised at next meeting.
· Posters, drafted by James, were agreed. These to be photocopied for next meeting.
· A showing of the DVD ‘Precarity’ to be organised by James, this will also be a banner making session.
· Next meeting – 7pm Thursday 21st April, WSM offices, 5 Merrion Row to be followed by postering

"Until the philosophy which hold one race superior, And another -Inferior -Is finally and permanenly Discredited
& abandoned -
Everywhere is war - Brother Bob Marley.
(He sounded the first trumpet you know). And he was right, Mr Brown drives round town in a big car and is controlled by remote, after 400 years young people don't see what they're fighting for, you goto stand up! for your rights, and walk right out of Babalon.

& now since the system which holds one human to be superior to another on the basis of - creed- ethnic origin - gender - socioeconomic class is occupying Babalon, its a good time to finally discredit that system. Vote if you know it will change the faces of government, = vote out your Irish state keyholders next time.
thereafter ignore them. They can not continue in governance without consulting you, without listening to your complaints, without misappropriating your slogans and ideas and presenting them commercially as their own, and each idea stolen is one more nail in their coffin.

If we are to finally move to the libertarian democracy where the self-evident truth that all men and women are created equally is honoured, then we begin in our communities, on our streets, in our schools, in our work places, on the land we farm by reaching out to and including our brothers and sisters and fighting always for the weakest.

The barricades to which we must go and fight in this century, are not ones of violence, they are ones of ignorance, and parochialism and nationalist greed. The fight is no different than that joined by Emma Goldman, Eugene Zamiatin, Bakhunin, and the millions un-named, it is the first and final conflict, what has altered is the means we use, and the language we subvert and the success we have in exposing the hypocrisy of those who cling to a system which has failed the resounding majority. All that has changed is the need for blood. We lust love now. And in this century we are approaching our critical mass.

"We are the blessèd cancer of action that will end the apathy of the evil political class that has twisted the mandate of the vote and the meaning of democracy."

:-)
For every "re-patriated" man, woman & child who has been taught how to fight, will be planted another seed in the global revolution.

Apologies about the problems with the links - it's not an anarchist plot to take over the ICTU, I swear!! Those with the technical knowhow (not me I'm afraid) will sort it soon.

just one small comment - it's kind of hard to read the black text on purple background. Maybe this could be changed. Otherwise, great to see some work happening on this. Well done.
