Ahmed Ben Bella in Dublin Next Friday
Intro to next weeks anti-war forum One of the leaders of the Algerian Revolution, Ahmed Ben Bella, is to speak in Dublin at the anti war forum organised by the Irish Anti War Movement next weekend.
Ben Bella won honours fighting the Nazis in the second world war as part of the Free French Army. On his return he joined the burgeoning resistance to French Rule.
The war lasted 8 years, from 1954-1962, and claimed up to a million lives. Ben Bella was the first presicdent of Independent Algeria, and then he was overthrown in amiltary coup in 1963, not to be released until 1979. Today he is a well known figure on the anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist movement internationally and is involved with a number of international organisations including the Cairo Conference. Ben Bella will introduce the legendary anti-imperialist film The Battle Of Algiers on Friday night in the IFC in temple bar at 6pm and will speak at the
forum throughout the weekend. Speakers include:
