Good vigil held today for two hours at the GPO under the watchful eye of the State's Guardians of Peace, An Garda Siochana.

Elaine and Ciaron held up the colourful MacBush banner throughout (see http://geocities.com/pit_stop_ploughshares/pitnews.html ), the great artistic creation of Geraldine Robinson stalled passers-by to read

'Here's the smell of blood, still all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand'

Watch out Iran, your probably be next; certainly if Seymour Hersh's recent reporting is anything to go by this is not too far-fetched a presumption.

Colm Roddy, regular vigil keeper outside the Dail and also at the Irish Aviation Authority every Monday 4-6pm, was present with images of the Abu Ghraib abuse and damning indictments of the Bush,Blair, and Bertie regimes. Looks like we'll have to make up a few more placards soon regarding the torture perpetrated by British troops on 'looters'.

In the midst of the traffic a phone call was received from Ireland on Sunday about the Guantanomo Express jet which has passed through Shannon at various occasions. This plane was exposed as being part of a covert Pentagon/Rumsfield sanctioned CIA operated 'Extraordinary Renditions' campaign facilitating the extradition and torture of alleged Islamic Extremists in Egypt, Guantanomo, etc. Tim Hourigan has done alot of work around this and a feature can be read at indymedia.ie. Just go back in to page 2 of the older feature section near the bottom of the page.

The Coalition forces never fail to provide shocking images of war, despite the obvious fact that what we see is a small percentage of the atrocities being perpetrated on a hourly/daily basis in the theatre of war.

Needless but important to clarify and say that we are against the atrocities committed by the insurgents/resitance also.

Lawrence (Fairview group)and Mark (Grassroots) also plucked in to speak to those interested in the vigil and against the lavish coronation set for a war criminal.

Workers from the IMPACT Peace Forum Martin and Dominic were present for the 2nd half of the vigil.

Michael Bermingham, who spent most of the last 2 1/2 years in Iraq, and Nuin Dunlop, Pitstop Ploughshares defendant on trial MARCH 7TH In Dublin's Four Courts, both came to the end of the vigil as we were commemorating the war dead in respectful remembrance of those they've left behind and the tragic illegal and immoral war in which they died.

A minutes silence was held to complete the vigil.

Please join us every Saturday at the BANK OF IRELAND opposite Trinity to hold an Anti-War stall between 2-4pm and/or the Irish Aviation Authority on Burgh Quay just off southside of O'Connell bridge every Monday between 4-6pm

Please let people know about the Amy Goodman Public Meeting mentioned above and the benefit gig for Shannon Peace Activists on trial this March 7th in Dublin.

Solidarity is the key to further resistance.

For those of you who may have missed Bush's "Freedom" speech....

I saw a snippet of this on the late night showing of PrimeTime and had to check the transcript to see if I'd heard it right. (There was some footage of Owen Rice trying to arrest Bush during his Dromoland visit also.)

The whole speech is about 6 pages but some of my favourite parts were:

"For as long as whole regions of the world simmer in resentment and tyranny prone to ideologies that feed hatred and excuse murder, violence will gather and multiply in destructive power, and cross the most defended borders, and raise a mortal threat."

"From the day of our founding, we have proclaimed that every man and woman on this earth has rights, and dignity, and matchless value…. "

"We will encourage reform in other governments by making clear that success in our relations will require the decent treatment of their own people. America's belief in human dignity will guide our policies."

In light of the huge civilian death toll in Iraq, the kidnapping, detainment without trial and treatment of people in Guantanemo bay, you really wonder how this guy can get on his high moral pedestal and talk about protecting human dignity.

As he said himself "violence will gather and multiply in destructive power..."

Sgt. 1st Class Jeff Due, right, a U.S. Army recruiter, is surrounded by protesters at Seattle Central Community College, Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, in Seattle. After about a 10-minute standoff during which protesters tore up U.S Army literature, the protesters were successful in getting Due and another recruiter to leave their table under escort by campus security officers. Several hundred students walked out of classes at several Seattle colleges and universities to protest the inauguration of President Bush. (AP Photo/Ted S. Warren)
