The Taoiseach has been briefed on developments in the 'Monicagate' affair . He was said to have been shocked when he was given a verbatim account of the crude reference made live on lst Thursdays Joe Duffy's radio programme on RTE, that claimed Mr Cullen was getting good value if Ms Leech was, as the caller crudely termed it, "sucking his cock". RTE now fear being sued for libel and have removed the edition of the programme from their online audio archives.

RTE now fear being sued for libel and have removed the edition of the programme from their online audio archives.

"However, the Sunday Independent reports that
" political career of the Minister for Transport, Martin Cullen, may have been saved by a caller to RTE's Liveline programme who made a lewd comment about the Transport Minister and his friend and political associate Monica Leech."

"Until then the Taoiseach had been determined to sack his beleaguered minister if even the spirit of ethics laws were breached in the awarding of a €300,000 contract to Ms Leech. "

Recordings of the interview have begun to appear on the internet, with the offending crash even being sampled for the new recording of "Father and Son" by the gay priests recording duo "The Pet Shop Altar Boys", which appears on their CD of cover versions called "Shirtlifters of the World Unite".
