event notice
Monday December 06, 2004 21:21 by Paul Kinsella - CPSU An Post Branch Committee paulkinsella53 at yahoo dot com 53 Lorcan Grove, Santry, Dublin 9, Eire 085-1478100
Following a recent overwhelming vote of 91 in favour of industrial action in a ballot organised by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) over very serious breaches of industrial relations procedures including the closure of the SDS and the continued non payment of the last 2 phases of the Sustaining Progress Pay Agreement now worth 5% the CWU have started their campaign off with a nationwide day of action on Wednesday, December 8th involving a 1 day strike at An Post and a March in Dublin on the 8th. Now details are still a bit sketchy but it looks like CWU members will be assembling outside the CWU head office on the North Circular Road and Marching towards the Garden of Remberance on Parnell Square and then joining up with the rest of us in the Civil & Public Service Union (CPSU) and the Public Service Executive Union (PSEU) at the Larkin Statue on O'Connell Street at 12.45pm from where we're all Marching to the gates of Leinster House. We're asking other workers, especially those in other Semi States who facing similar attacks on their pay and working conditions such as the ESB, CIE, the former Aer Rianta and Aer Lingus to join us in a show of solidarity as we're facing similar battles. We're also asking other workers in the private and public sectors and the Civil Service and the general public who don't want to see our postal service especially in rural areas decimated to join us in a show of solidarity on Wednesday. Spread the word to everyone that you know about Wednesday's March. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2No offence, but maybe CWU members should focus less on management corruption fantasies spread by the union leadership and more on how a former secretary general could end up becoming a millionaire from his membership of the board of directors of Eircom.
The CWU leadership are not serving their members interests but their own. It's time workers at An Post began to work with a management with a track record of defending state ownership of public utilities instead of blindly following the self-serving CWU leadership.
This abuse could result in a weakening of the role of unions in defending the legitimate interests of workers in this country, which should worry us all.
Stop dragging the name of public service workers through the mud!
It is the management are forcing this strike on themselves.they should just pay us our money that they owe us and stop looking to close the company and get us around to their way of thinking. We are never going to agree to what they want so they should just give us what we want and stop printing untrue stories making us look like the ones in the wrong to the public.
