Losing to Win Thu Feb 13, 2025 14:00 | Dr James Allan
Sometimes politicians have to lose to win so the other side can show its true colours. Trump is the standout example, says Prof James Allan. Had he won in 2020, we would not have had the blitz of the last four weeks.

Don?t Blame Gen Z Thu Feb 13, 2025 09:00 | Joanna Gray
Joanna Gray says the Gen Zer she was mentoring had an epiphany: "It?s not us who suck; it?s you Gen Xers. No wonder you lot went along with all that trans BS, you'd all lost your bottle." Terrifyingly, he was right.

Greens get very worried about the risk of nuclear accidents. But have they considered that the economic devastation of Net Zero will cause far more deaths than were ever suffered by Ukraine after Chernobyl, asks Ben Pile.

Ireland is indeed an aircraft carrier.
Is Ireland happy with this or has it just accepted it?
When you think of all thats happened since the invasion of Afghanistan it makes you despair. If only there were more people like mary Kelly in this country. Because in this life or the next were all going to have to face up to how or how not we facilitated evil and destruction in our world
God bless you and all your your supporters
As an Irish citizen I'm ok with the troops coming through Ireland. Just think, this could be the last friendly country these soldiers see before going to face the horrors of war in Iraq. And what do you lot do? Protest and cause trouble. As if the troops don't have enough to worry about. Let them be. Almost 1200 of them dead, over 18000 wounded so far. YOU DON'T REPRESENT ME.
1 - 2 - A thousand Mogadishu's
Will the motley (tiny) crew also protest against the illegal punishment beatings, bombings and murder committed by Irish terrorists?
Are the children of Ulster worth less than the children of Iraq?
Answers on a postcard please.......
I think you are entitled to call them what you want as long as you make some sort of coherent point, with politeness. There is too much abuse allowed on indymedia imo. For instance, there are some contributors who endlessly slag off the swp on every thread on every given occasion. As an swper I don't find this a particularly comradely form of debate, but such is life on this channell.
Meanwhile, well done to those who made it to Ennis and those who highlighted her case. Its a shame more people weren't there.
If you wish to view the comments above that were hidden (possibly the most articulate posts ever on the imc obviously written by a genius of the english language) indymedia has provided a way for users of this site to review the editorial process.
Go to http://www.indymedia.ie/admin.php
and login as UNCOVER- with the pasword PLEASE.
I suppose this allows users to view comments that have been deemed unsuitable for publication because they have little relevance to the discussion in progress. Comments like those by Pete and RK who obviously have very little to contribute apart from spite and an infantile sense of hummor.
Ps fair play to ya Mary.
The primary reason for the uncover/please login is so that those who want to participate in the editorial process can see features in progress. Before the account was created, those participants on the editorial list but who weren't editors couldn't really contribute to the process of writing / compiling features as the draft features were hidden to all but the editors. They would have been aware that articles were being featured but not being editors they couldn't see the content of the article being prepared. The new account was added so that those who want to participate in the editorial process can now view the draft features and suggest improvements, corrections and other changes before the editorial group votes to go "live" with the front page feature.
The newswire list is still the primary mechanism we have for transparency and accountability. Anyone can subscribe and once you're subscribed, you have access to all the past archives which act as a historical record for every editorial action since the site started using Oscailt. Using the uncover login can add some context but it won't tell you why something was hidden and / or which guideline was contravened. Site users may see the hidden posts but they will still be in the dark regarding how the editorial process works and how open and transparent it is to those who make the small effort to subscribe to the lists.
"I suppose this allows users to view comments that have been deemed unsuitable for publication because they have little relevance to the discussion in progress. Comments like those by Pete and RK who obviously have very little to contribute apart from spite and an infantile sense of hummor."
Yeah, but I recall putting a comment on this thread wishing Mary well or something to that effect, and now it's gone. Although it was a fairly banal comment, I've seen a lot more banal stuff on that's been left on threads.
I know this isn't necessarily the place for a discussion of editorial policy, but I do wonder about why something relatively innocuous would get removed in that manner.
So again, well done and hope all goes well, Mary.
To me it is a very bad idea to include violent actions in the cause of peace. So destroying a plane is not done in my name but I whole heartedly support all those who demonstrate in a non violent way as that is what the peace movement is all about
