Dublin Bus canteen burnt last night Fire in Dublin Bus canteen Regretfully I have to tell you that the Dublin Bus canteen on Earl Place - At the back of Clery's in Dublin suffered serious smoke damage as a result of a fire last night. This comes as very bad news for many of us - Not just Bus Workers. Many generations of Dubliners including myself have been fed by the Dublin Bus canteen over the years. Although officially only for CIE Workers a blind eye was usually turned 99% of the time to anybody else coming in to avail of the very cheap food available. For example you could get a full breakfast for 2 Euro and a full dinner for 3 Euro. Fair play - Some cafe beside Dunnes Stores in North Earl Street are giving free food to uniformed Bus staff. A Bus Driver who I know very well gave me the bad news this morning. I went into town and had a look for myself. From a distance all looks well. The building hasn't been burnt on the outside. However it's when you come up closer that you realise all is not well. The tell-tale burning smell and the bags of burnt stuff being dumped and CIE staff being turned away from the door confirm the sad story. Hopefully it won't be too long before the Dublin Bus Canteen is open again for everybody. |
