World Vegetarian Day

category international | sci-tech | event notice author Monday September 27, 2004 03:44author by poster Report this post to the editors

Fare Day at Dublin Food Co-Op

Irish vegetarians and those interested in vegetarians will have a “Fare Day” on Sunday October 3rd to celebrate World Vegetarian Day.

Organised by the Vegetarian Society of Ireland, the one day event taking place in St. Andrew’s Resource Centre, Pearse Street, Dublin 2, from 12noon to 5pm, will be an emporium of culinary delights for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike and informative talks on topics such as:

Vegetarianism & The Environment, by Ita West, proprietor of the famous vegan guest house, Cussens Cottage, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick.

Stephen Walsh, renowned expert will give a talk on Veganism & Nutrition.

Tracey Culleton, author will take audiences through ‘Vegetarian Mother & Baby’.

The aim of World Vegetarian Day is to educate people on the benefits of a vegetarian diet and to celebrate and promote vegetarianism. The number of people turning to vegetarianism in Ireland is growing steadily for a variety of reasons, including health, environmental concerns and animal welfare issues.

Visitors can delight in a kaleidoscope of foods and products with everything from organically grown fruit and vegetables to animal fat free chocolate and vegetarian wine. (So don’t have a big lunch before your try and taste at the fare!!) Part of the attractions of World Vegetarian Day include on-going cookery demonstrations from chefs such as Tracy Culleton and Dee Higgs, authors of “Simply Vegetarian”, a cookbook with over 100 simple low cost recipes.

Admission €2.50 adults; €1.50 for OAPs, the unemployed, students, children between 7 and 14
years and VSI members, €6.00 for families, whilst children under 7 years are free.
