Ramadan has begun in Londonistan. It's another sign of how Islam is encroaching on Western culture, says Tim Dieppe. It's a long time since critics of any other religion were imprisoned. But don't you dare insult Islam!

More attacks on asylum seekers

category international | eu | news report author Wednesday September 22, 2004 20:02author by SP Member - SP Report this post to the editors

Neo-liberal and anti-refugee policies feed reaction

On 30 September, at a meeting with the ministers responsible from the EU countries, the German minister,Otto Schily, will move a resolution advocating the deportation of asylum-seekers to camps outside the EU’s borders. (Tchad is one country he has mentioned.)

This is a proposal Germany previously has opposed. Schily will be seconded by the new EU commissioner for asylum issues, Rocco Buttiglione from Italy. These two also advocate that the right of appeal for refugees should be abolished.

The proposals are connected to the neo-liberal cuts in welfare, but also aim to win over the least conscious layers of the population in an attempt to shore up falling political support. Attention will be diverted to the ‘cost’ of refugees instead of the failure of the politicians and the increased exploitation of the big companies. The German government has also partly attempted to foster discontent against the EU, emphasising “German interests” in the debates over enlargement and the EU budget.

Just what is the SP position on what you deam the "least conscious layers of the population "?

This strikes me as yet another grotesque brandishment of classes of people favoured by those such as the so called AFA.

You obviously believe they should be marginalised but maybe you have stronger feelings.

Perhaps you have you a "final solution" for the "untermenschen" you would like to share?

"over the least conscious layers of the population in an attempt to shore up falling political support."

The least conscious layers are those that are not members of the Socialist Party/ have chosen to leave it and or dont vote for it.

"The proposals are connected to the neo-liberal cuts in welfare, but also aim to win over the least conscious layers of the population in an attempt to shore up falling political support"

I dont actually think they are as a growing immigrant population is good for the market economy. I think the measures are arising out of a disgustingly paranoid and racist mentality of the EU leadership.

By the way there isnt falling support for the political establishment as much as Id like it to exist. Reading that analysis you'd think the workers were on the verge of revolt!

Agree with hysteria comment but your quote:

"The least conscious layers are those that are not members of the Socialist Party"

Hilarious.

Strikes me that the most "conscious layers" in your opinion, are therefore, the ones that would lead us to impoverished utopia.

Unless that is, you can point to a successful socialist government now or say, anytime in history?

Come on - youve had enough time.

Not tempted to mention that National Socialist Government that Germany had around the 1930's either I guess.
