Supporting Resistance in Galway

Victory to the Resistance - Jail the Government

On Saturday past Galway anti-war activists decided to not waste time moaning over the date, but to get on with supporting those who have shown great example in resistance to the criminal designs of the US and Irish governments in their aggression and warmongering.
The kidz have it ... "They can patch up planes, but not children"
The kidz have it ... "They can patch up planes, but not children"

The streetwork has been found the most refreshing and direct way to engage with the public, inform them about the upcoming trials of those who have taken action and to canvass their support.

Reactions were very positive with most people shocked to hear the gory details that people like Mary Kelly and the Catholic Workers are still undergoing very expensive and exhausting trials.

The kids on the streets of Galway didn't need much explaining to know whose side they're on - the wee girl in the photo spontaneously said, "Ach, what are the Yanks crying about, sure can't they patch up their bloody plane again, but they can't fix all the killing they've done." Well, that just about sums it up, out of the mouths of babes and sucklings.

BTW, printed materials etc. are available if you'd like to organise for PR support or fundraising for the Legal Defence Fund.

On monday this week the Guardian published extracts from Seymour Hersh's book on Donald Rumsfeld's dirty war . Hersh wrote that last year two Al Qaida suspects - Zery and Agiza were transported from Swedish custody to prison in Eygpt where they were tortured at the behest of US special forces.
According to Hersh ,the plane used to fly Zery and Agiza ,a chartered Gulfstream jet ,was tracked by a Swedish reporter Fredrik Lauren . Ireland was one of its stop off points. Another was Guantanamo.
Do Shannon plane spotters know anything more about any of this ?

That plane came through Shannon 18th Jan 2003 (during the time of the peace camp) going to Washington DC, I think it was coming from Kuwait.

It's on my list that I put on Indymedia at the end of January last year. http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=26231

The Swedish reporter mentioned contacted me for help tracking the plane, because he did a google search for the registration and found the report on Indymedia...

Even though it is registered as a private jet, It has military clearance to land at a LOT of US military bases.

But more on this soon...

It's also worth noting this.

Irish Times 26.06.2004
article by Mark brennock
Deaglun De Breadun and Liam Reid

"Asked if he knew whether Shannon was beign used to transport prisoners to Guantanamo Bay, he said UN resolution 1546 had said member states should help the coalition forces in Iraq in whatever way they could"

That sure doesn't sound like "No"...

Here's a link to a picture.

It's a reminder of how normal these things can look, even when involved in nasty oeprations and wars... like the one Mary was opposing directly by her action the same month that this plane came through Shannon.

When I first met Tim I thought he was a Garda -- tall, standing arms folded, etc. -- but he's way too bright to be a cop.
