Mann gets seven years

category international | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday September 14, 2004 00:35author by Hilaal Report this post to the editors

Ex-SAS man Simon Mann was sentenced to seven years imprisonment in Zimbabwe on Friday.
"Cripes"
"Cripes"

Mark Thatcher, friend, associate, neighbour and co-conspirator of Manns will now be worried as he awaits trial in South Africa for financing part of the operation to overthrow the twice elected President Teodoro Obiang of Equatorial Guinea, last March.
Their plot to install their own puppet , Severo Moto, was thwarted when Zimbabwean intelligence agents moved in on their plane when it landed at Harare International Airport to pick up weapons on March 7th . Mann, 51, admitted ordering assault rifles, grenades, antitank rocket launchers and other weapons from a Zimbabwean arms company.
Sixty-five mercenaries arrested off the plane were sentenced to 12 months in jail on immigration offences. The two pilots got sixteen months and the specially converted Boeing 727 and $180,000 found on board were seized by Zimbabwean authorities.

Mark Thatcher will have to answer questions put by Equatorial Guinea authorities, relating to the coup, as well as appearing in court on November 25 under South Africa's anti-mercenary laws. Thatcher has been fingered by a young computer expert involved in funnelling money to the mercenary escapade, in return for some leniency. He is also implicated by one of twelve men being held in Equatorial Guinea who says he saw him conspiring with Simon Mann.
Jeffrey Archer is also sweating it, as he awaits questioning by South African detectives and possible extradition for his part in financing, with others , the foiled coup.

Thatcher arrested for supporting Terrorism
by Hilaal Saturday, Aug 28 2004

Sir Mark Thatcher, the son of former British prime minister Lady Thatcher was arrested at his house in Cape Town,South Africa and was charged under South Africa's anti-mercenary laws in connection with an alleged coup attempt in the oil-rich state of Equatorial Guinea.

Sir Mark "Scratcher" Thatchers friend and associate Simon Mann has just been convicted by a Zimbabwean court of attempting to buy arms for a coup attempt in Equatorial Guinea. When sentenced, he faces fifteen years in prison. US, British, and Spanish intelligence agencies were involved in the plot to launch a coup in oil-rich and poverty-stricken Equatorial Guniea.

The son of an England cricket captain who made a fortune from the Watney's brewing empire and a former 22nd Special Air Service Regiment (SAS) terrorist in Northern Ireland, Mann now lives/lived in Cape Town where he sold computer security equipment and ran a business providing mercinaries to wealthy clients in South Africa. He administers the web site of Logo Logistics, the firm that contracted the US-registered Boeing 727-100 cargo plane to Zimbabwe last March.

As his plane sat on the runway at Harare airport , Mann watched from the main terminal. He was there to ensure the safety of the 67 mercenaries on board and to supervise the loading of a large quantity of arms, including mortars, Kalashnikovs and 30,000 rounds of ammunition. However the Zim authorities surrounded the plane and arrested the former SAS man and his merry band.

Nick du Toit, a South African soldier of fortune was soon arrested in Equatorial Guinea, Africa's third largest oil developer, with a further 15 suspected mercenaries/terrorists. He confessed to being part of the coup plot and has implicated others including....

Ely Calil, a Chelsea-based millionaire is accused by the Equatorial Guinea government of helping to organise the coup from his home in west London. During his years in London he developed links with senior Tory and Labour politicians. At one time he was financial adviser to the "Lord" Jeffrey Archer. In 1999 Peter Mandelson rented one of Calil's luxury flats in Holland Park for a year, shortly before his time as Northern Ireland secretary.

The government of Equatorial Guinea has also issued a warrant for the arrest of David Hart, a British businessman with links to the THATCHER family, and claims it has evidence to show he helped to fund the coup plot.

Hart was Maggie Thatcher's chief enforcer during the miners' strike and handed out money to strike breaking scabs. He served as a special adviser to Malcolm Rifkind and Michael Portillo under Tory governments. Hart is known to have excellent access to the US administration and worked closely with the former CIA director William Casey in the early and mid-1980s.

"Sir Scratcher" Thatcher is currently on bail but has made complaints to the South African Police Service that while in custody his expensive watch, jacket and shoes were taken from him by fellow prisoners. "Crpies chaps the fuzzie guzzies took me duds".

Fuzzie WUZZIES was a term used by Kipling to describe the Mahdi's Dervish army in Sudan, due to their shaggy hair and beards. Their fanatical brand of Islam certainly would not sit well in a multi-cultural democracy.

Not a good time to go, unless you have plenty of 'disposable assets' to give away at the muzzle of an AK47.

While Zimbabwe has been suffering a long drought and economic impoverishment brought about by British Intelligence and Corporate efforts to make Mugabe look bad, it is not at all like you read in the papers or hear on radio or TV.

Zimbabwe has many opportunities in all sorts of areas but not as has been said for "White Settlers".

The term "White Settlers" refers to industrial scale farmers (5000-20,000 acres) who basically run slave camps and supple large chain stores in Europe and the US with cheap produce. The effect of these eco-terrorists has been to give african workers a pittance for long hard work. They have destroyed large tracks of the country with over-fertilisation, overuse of pesticides and others mass farming problems.

They and the British ethos they spread in a country trying to make its way out of centuries of colonial and imperial oppression is not at all welcome, and why should it be? Give them the muzzle of the AK by all means

For those who would genuinely work as an equal with the Zimbabwean people there are many opportunities.

I dearly hope his mumsy-wumsy gets to see her little lammikins locked up in one for his criminal activity.

How awful that some of his clothes were taken from him during his brief stint in the big-house. At least he wasnt forced to wear only a blanket for 6 years.

Lets just hope for his sake he doesnt claim to be a politically motivated prisoner. "A crime is a crime , is a crime" after all.
