Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli gaols have been on hunger strike for several weeks. People in the Galway area are also asked to join a 24-hour fast in solidarity with the 3,500 Palestinian hunger strikers, starting on Thursday evening, 2 September at 6 pm. Hunger striking might make sense in Irish pre-Christian Celtic law but it makes no sense in Judaism nor to the English speaking world beyond Ireland.
The Palestine Arabs are great copy cats without always understanding that what works somewhere else does not always transfer.
Remember that Thatcher and the British just thought Bobby Sands and for that matter Mac Sweeney of Cork a bit crazy. At least one Israeli minister has already effectively said good riddance if these fasters die.
