Patricks day and the likes of Christmas have transcended their original religious meaning and have special meaning to the vast majority of people living in Ireland.

Its bloody obvious that their isnt enough days in the year to have a parade for EVERY religious denomination. And those of us who have little time for religion also get a bit miffed at the priviledges sometimes accorded to various "faiths".

That is a complete lie.

It's a shame you have to create and spread untruths about things you obviously know nothing about it.

I'm glad to report that the feedback from the parade was brilliant.

Rathayatra is an ancient event that has been held annually in India for over 5,000 years, and that has been held every year in major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Paris and London for over 40 years.

We have held this same parade four times in Dublin before and the response has been brilliant.

A quick word to the individual making some rather strange allegations of racism etc: If you read even a snippit of our countless books and publications you will understand that our sole aim is to promote the understanding that whatever your race, sex, religion or nationality is, you deserve the same level of respect as anyone else.

This is what our movement symbolises and what the parade celebrates. Its a pity that some people feel the need to make up negative comments to the contrary of what our message is.

And as far as every religious organisation having their own day - I say go for it. If we end up with too many parades then we'll have to disperse them to less busier areas than the City Centre but at present how many are there? Rathayatra, St Patricks Day parade - maybe a few more?

Dublin deserves to be brought to life in a diverse, colourful way, and as a Dub I for one welcome it thoroughly.

Best wishes,

Janmastami

"This so called religious group are reactionaries. Has anyone here ever looked into their right wing and racist views on re-incarnation?"

England football coach Glenn Hoddle told an interviewer that disabled people were paying off the bad karma they collected in previous incarnations. Tony Blair asked for his resignation. But, from a Buddhist viewpoint Hoddle was quite correct: no less a figure than the Dalai Lama confirmed as much, but added that “if you live in a Christian country, you should keep these views to yourself. It is difficult to have a mish-mash of religions”.

The truth is that "Hare Krishna" is actually "Vaishnava" Hindu and has roots over 5000 years old. Hinduism is the world's oldest religion. What God do they worship? There is only one God and He is the same God they worship. Many people think Hinduism is "polytheistic", but actually Hindus accept there is only one God, but they don't limit Him to one dimension, or one form. They give Him credit for being the greatest, supreme, and full of unlimited power who can expand and become many forms representing His unlimited power, but simultaneously "ONE". Why can't you pinpoint a particular man, or founder to Hinduism like other religions? It is because it is GOD who is the founder pure and simple. The ancient Vedic scriptures form the basis for HInduism and it the world's oldest scriptures. Respect for "ALL" life is so important to "devout" Hindus that they are even vegetarian and believe the soul is the real self and is within all bodies. The religion is all about "love for God", or "bhakti" and temples are full of activity, devotion, and happiness. Visit one near you for a great thrill. Sunday programs offer mantra meditation, music, Bhagavad Gita, or Srimad Bhagavatam class and an "all you can eat" vegetarian dinner that if FREE afterwards. Hinduism is an open minded religion that teaches unity and brotherhood with God in the center. The browbeating, intimidating, scare tactics that many are familar with from certain other religious groups don't exist there. I have nothing but respect for this great religion and its great religious history. Hare Krishna!

Quite a few people of not-so-well-developed intelligence making comments here...that's a pity...So some people do not think there is a supreme being, a 'God'. I'll have to take a very simple example:

We all have a body, we all have a brain (although some don't use it very well!). Our human body is more complex in nature than any man-made machine. Like take a computer. Now, is a computer the product of chance- it just appeared out of nowhere? Or was it created by intelligence?

If you had 1 billion years to wait, would you expect the ordinary laws of nature to create a computer (in this example)...the metal gets mined by itself, the petroleum is mined and eventually the plastic is produced etc, and then the components are all constructed...no? It wouldn't happen by itself. A computer takes an intelligent being to create it - it would never happen any other way. Well, because we're limited in general it isn't done by just one person - it takes plenty of people working together to get the finished goods. But understand the point.

If our human body is viewed as a machine, then it follows that this machine was created by higher intelligence. Now we're coming towards the idea of 'intelligent design'. And the 'design' has an intelligent designer. And where there is higher intelligence, it follows he / she / they can communicate. That's obvious. Even people with little happening inside their head can communicate, so, yes, a being or beings with more going on can communicate. Then higher beings give wisdom and knowledge, for those with enough sense to take it.

I'll stop here and simply mention that the Veda or Vedic texts written in Sanskrit are the knowledge, but they must be understood from a spiritual master coming in a bone fide line of disciplic succession (but if you're not sincere enough you'll find a 'love guru' type). This is written for people actually open and willing to learn. Others are too closed, and would never understand.

(By the way, the Veda also say that although our body is compared to machine, we ourselves, the 'souls' are like the drivers of the bodily machine. We are never created, but always exist - however in this material world we do change bodies)
