One year on Aubonne Bridge.

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Sunday June 27, 2004 16:32author by merrovinginvanjan - merro vin gin van jan. me rroving in van jan merrovining you are merrovingin you vanjan. you are a v Report this post to the editors

Impunity continues.

Tomorrow June 28th the protesters who were cut down, will face charges of endangering drivers.

On the 1st June 2003, an affinity group of 17 activists blockaded a motorway in Aubonne, Switzerland to prevent delegates from reaching the G8 summit in Evian. Two climbers hung suspended as counterweights from one rope that crossed the motorway bridge over the aubonne valley. Others held banners and blockaded the traffic. Despite being informed about the nature of the action, police cut the rope causing one climber to plunge 20 metres, while the other was saved just in time by her friends.

Three activists in court 28th June.

The two climbers (who were nearly killed by the police) and one of the local Swiss activists are in court in Nylon (15 min from Geneva) charged with blocking the road and endangering the lives of the motorists.

Judge the perpetrators not the victims

The police have still not be charged or even suspended.

It is incredible example of state hypocrisy and violence when the activist who simply blocked a road are charged with “endangering life” and the police officers who cut climbing ropes and don’t help people in obvious distress are still on duty and will probably never face any disciplinary charges or legal charges. This almost total police impunity must stop before more people are killed, traumatised or injured.

There were many other examples of police violence during and after the G8 meeting, none of which have resulted in charges against the police. Two other cases that have clear video evidence. Shooting a cameraman in the back with a stun grenade whilst he was running away from the police.
Storming the Usine Indy media centre dressed as Black Bloc and beating many people in the process.

There have been anniversary protests at the Swiss consular missions on 23rd of June 2004

CAD one is gone now. improvise. no one arrested great. look at the telecaster. we still have jobs and money we dont really deserve anyway.
eh,,, we'll go over to our special guest star the Dalia Lama now and the weather outlook.
Your Holiness-

Well its all a question of suffering.
Life is mostly about that.
Expect more of it.

Thank you very much Dalai.
(he's cheap as well) Now will the Turkish anarchist succeed where the Irish failed?
Will CAD one go Archduke FranzFerdinand?
No. I doubt very much doubt it.

If the option is having a Caesar who gets blowjobs and pretends to be nice, or having a Caesar who doesn't like condoms and is a rampant militarist, I know who I'd vote for if I were an imperial citizen.
But I'm not.
I'm a merrovinginvanjan.
and a merrovinginvanjan pleb at that.

Could someone sort out that illustration above?

We also remember the coplovers on the "left". Michael O'Brien of the SP wrote an article where he praised the restraint of the cops at Evian and never mentioned the bridge.

We also remember the coplovers on the "left". Michael O'Brien of the SP wrote an article where he praised the restraint of the cops at Evian and never mentioned the bridge.

Did Michael O'brien say that? If he didnt then you have posted a lie and your motive must be questioned. Perhaps you would post the article then everyone could see for themselves what was said?

The article by him in (his masters) Voice didnt mention what happened on the bridge.

"Unlike Gothenburg and Genoa, where the capitalist state tried to take the movement on by intimidation and violent repression, the strategy they employed for Geneva and Evian was somewhat different, a backhanded recognition that the movement is here to stay. On this occasion the main blockade and demonstration in Geneva was totally unimpeded by the state. Likewise the French and Swiss border guards, immigration control and customs officers were nowhere to be seen when the mass demonstrations of over 100,000 converged on the border.

Far more useful in terms of propaganda from their point of view, were the violent clashes that did take place in nearby Lausanne and later in the evening in Geneva between riot police and the Black Bloc anarchists. Naturally the media gave disproportionate coverage to these clashes despite the fact that the numbers involved were completely dwarfed by the main demonstrations."

No mention of the cops attacking peaceful protesters on the bridge but he still found room to attack the Black Blok. Theres a lot more reformist rubbish in the June Voice.

not quite the same thing is it?

"We also remember the coplovers on the "left". Michael O'Brien of the SP wrote an article where he praised the restraint of the cops at Evian and never mentioned the bridge."

But I am sure you have your reasons:)

People can read and make their own minds up. There is no criticism of the cops, no mention of the bridge. But the SP managed to get a dig in at the Black Blok.

two after the case began verdict came-
Guilty.
Seemingly loads of noise was made.
So they are now guilty of "endangering the lives of motorists" and face a mix of suspended prison sentances and costs.

It is unclear whether they are going to get to bring anysort of action against the Police.
It really is a "fuckoff" message. no?
