The protest march against the visit of George W. Bush began shortly before 6.30pm. Everyone was reported to be in high spirits. At 7.20 the march arrived near the Lidl supermarket. At 8.10 the front of the march was about three hundred metres walk from the airport. 8.30pm The march was stopped about 200 metres from Shannon Airport by the Gardai at about 8.15pm. Don't mind Sky News. RTE have said that there were 10,000 on the Dublin protest. That is a good figure for a Friday evening.
I missed what they said about the numbers at Shannon.
There were protests in other cities and towns but I have not heard the details.

Very lively and good humoured. Did a count on the way to the airport, just over 1,100 on demo. Cops were quoting 750 to journalists on the scene.Between 200 and 300 people from Shannon participate, many young people and many people bringing their children. Many more Shannon people came out along the route to offer support. This was despite widespread rumours around Shannon today that there was going to be trouble at the demo. Cops seemed really embarrassed by the over the top security measures.

Thanks for keeping up the heat on Bush. Denying him photo ops from countries that are close allies makes him look bad. Best of luck demilitarising your airport too.
