Sligo Anti War Group Information

category sligo | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Thursday June 10, 2004 00:20author by Pete Ranks - Sligo Anti War Group Report this post to the editors

On Wednesday next, the 16th of June, there will be a public meeting in the Trades Club on Castle St. at 9:00pm, where Nuria Dunne, an Iraqi citizen, will speak about the ongoing illegal occupation of her country. Other unconfirmed guest speakers are also expected.

As well as this, there will be a 'Busk against Bush' in Sligo on Saturday 12th and Saturday 19th, where musicians and other performers from around the area will attempt to make the people of Sligo aware that one of the greatest war criminals of our time will be on our soil in the very near future, and perhaps persuade a few of them to make the trip down to Shannon on the 26th to make him feel as unwelcome as possible.
With regard to this, there will be a rally outside the town hall at 7:00pm on the eve of his visit, where a number of speakers will talk about why we should not be giving this unelected president failte amhain, never mind cead mile.
Also, there is a bus organised to bring folk from Sligo and environs to the demonstration in Shannon/Dromoland on Saturday the 26th. It will be leaving O'Connell St. in Sligo at 6:00am. Anyone interested in getting on this Bus against Bush should contact Jamie on 0863039787 or myself at [email protected]. At present, the cost of the bus will be approximately 13euro, but any monies collected during the Busk against Bush will go towards subsidising this.

Bush will be in Shannon, not in Sligo, and so will I and thousands of other anti-war activists!

once you've read it again, you'll see that I know Mr. GWB will be in Shannon, as do most people in Ireland. So if you're not going to add something constructive, don't add anything at all. This is one of the reasons why myself and many of my friends don't bother with Indymedia anymore. If its not infighting between the various factions, then its smartass comments that don't help anyone. Indymedia should be used as a resource, not as a forum for people to show how smart they are (or aren't). But I look forward to seeing you and the thousands of others in Shannon on the 26th. Lets hope that it is tens of thousands, because this is a real chance to show that we don't want anything to do with his unjust war. Tog aire.

For your information, what indymedia should be used for is decided by the readers. I am not sure that you are aware of how pathetic people like you sound: you post 3 message on the newswire and then say that you don't bother with indymedia. GW Bush is arriving on 25 June and we will be there when he arrives.

Would you care to email me and expand on why you have such disregard for the efforts of your fellow activists in Sligo to add to the demo in Shannon(on the 26th)? And yes I admit it is quite 'pathetic' as you put it, to post 3 times(sorry, 4 times now) when one has said that they don't use Indymedia anymore. Perhaps I should have said that I find it hard to take the discussions seriously anymore because of the incidence of abuse between those who share a common cause, that to me seems pathetic. I eagerly await your response, however, as a man of my (second) word, I shall post no more here. Yours in solidarity, etc.....
(I know, more and more pathetic with every character)

Peter have you thought of getting help to overcome your addiction? You are obviously trying hard to kick indymedia but due to human weakness keep getting drawn back into its evil clutches. You know it is bad but it feels so good.

Yeah, I've tried all sorts, like just doing it at the weekend, and whenever I come home from the pub, but now I'm doing it at work, and sometimes even getting up in the middle of the night just to slag folk off because they spelt oppression wrong and stuff like that, but with your help (thanks for the IA info) hopefully I can bet back on the straight and narrow, although getting advice from other 'users' does seem a little weird. Perhaps if I could just cultivate a little 'overthe countercoughmedicine' addiction, twud keep me away. Damn, feeling too pathetic to write anym................
