Fianna Fail play musical chairs

category national | politics / elections | news report author Saturday June 05, 2004 01:26author by john mc dermott - Remove Fianna Failauthor address Dublin Report this post to the editors

Joe walsh steps out -Martin Cullen steps in.!

Pandering to the angry farmers is causing pandemonium in the ranks of the Fianna Fail Mafiosi.!

Fianna Fail U turn-reckless driving by Joe Walsh.Martin Cullen reverses gear once again. The ‘Soldiers’are driving round in circles on this one.! They would sell their own grandmothers for a few extra votes.

The 'Fianna Fail Spin ;of last week (sex, lies and videotape)released to all of the newspapers indicating that Ireland would be seeking a derogation(that means cop-out)from the European Nitrates directive whereby farmers pollute our nations drinking water by poisoning it,-has been cancelled.
Responding to my E-mail , Mr Walsh released the following amended press statement today;-

THE Irish Government faces fines of up to €50,000 a day, and the EU payments of €1.7bn to farmers may be vulnerable, if a plan to tackle pollution from farming is not submitted to Brussels by July, Agriculture Minister Joe Walsh warned yesterday.

A European Court of Justice ruling in March means Ireland has no choice but to implement the 1991 Nitrates Directive in full, Mr Walsh said at his department's annual review. "If we don't, it will have serious consequences. Our direct payments of €1.7bn could be put in a vulnerable situation," he said.

Most of the country's 130,000 farmers would already be compliant and only 10,000 would have a problem, Mr Walsh added.

Our thanks to Joe Walsh for his amazingly fast change of heart on this important issue to those of us who who drink ....-water!
However it looks like it's still curtains for the evil Judge,Bertie's boys are assembling a formidable posse of bounty hunters to hunt him down .....and save him from a lynch mob of the local sheep -sh***ers in the kerry mountains
Sorry ...Joe spoke too soon.
Today the infamous Martin ‘Cu’ Cullen ,Fianna Fail’s lickhound from hell announced that the Brussels directive is’ not the last word’on this matter as the farmers are furious at being asked to stop polluting the rivers as is their god appointed right, being the pillar on which Bertie and his gang hold office. We await further news. Will the taxpayer cough up millions in fines ?will the farmers have their way?Perhaps the green party and the recently emasculated 'An Taisce' will have some comment on this complicated issue.!

In fairness to Mary White (Green Party MEP candidate in East), while her position on live exports may be a cop-out, she's completely clear on Nitrates and drinking water. Here's a press release I put out a few weeks ago about this....

Peace campaigner and environmentalist Eoin Dubsky, who is running as an independent candidate for the Euro elections in Leinster, today called for proper enforcement of drinking water regulations to protect public health. Furthermore, he said, people who are forced to buy bottled still water because their tap water is not safe should be allowed recover the expense against their taxes.

"Everyone should have access to safe drinking water by law. Pollution from sources like poorly managed farms and businesses threaten public health, leaving families with little alternative but to boil their water or buy bottled drinking water. They should be allowed to recover the expense against their taxes.

"EU Directives on the environment and public health are not enforced properly in Ireland, and MEPs can either help or hinder the public interest. Schemes like REPS and EMAS need to be promoted more, to help make Irish agriculture and business environmentally friendly. Preventing pollution from entering waters -- source protection -- is the first line of defence and the most obvious."

Eoin Dubsky has been a volunteer with environmental group Coastwatch for years, campaigning for improved water quality and nature protection locally and around Europe.
