Bikes against Bush - Critical Mass for Peace

category national | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Monday May 31, 2004 15:16author by sovietpopauthor email bushcycle at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

Below are details of the planed critical mass from Dublin to Shannon

Bikes against Bush - Critical Mass for Peace

Get involved with the Bike Against Bush. The Critical Mass cycle from
Dublin to Shannon. Leaving Dublin, after the anti-Bush demo, on
Saturday the 19th of June.

Arriving in the Shannon Peace Camp in time
to prepare for the arrival of Bush in Shannon airport on Friday the
25th of June.

An opportunity for you to get active for a whole week
on an alternative buzz. Join in with the cycle itself, or help make
things happen in your area along the way.

Get your ass along to the
meeting next Wednesday the 2nd of June in the Teacher's Club, Parnell
Square, Dublin 1 at 7.30pm.

Critical Mass shows an alternative to the war and environmental
destruction represented by George W. Bush, the accidental President.
It's about exercising our powers as individuals in the face of the
Bush monolith. George Bush is coming to Co. Clare on the 25th of
June, and we're going to be there to greet him! Along with millions
of other people the world over, we have come to express our
disagreement and anger at the insane foreign, environmental, civil
rights and human rights policies of the most dangerous man on the
planet. It's becoming more and more obvious by the day that the War
in Iraq was a horrible mistake, as the peace demonstrations before
the war said it would be. The demonstrations against Bush are going
to be huge and this cycle is generating the build up to them. We want
to add our flavour to the mix!

This is going to be a great way to show our opposition, and
an important alternative (cycling) to Bush's policies. Critical Mass
is loved all over the world. It should also be great fun, a week of
camping and cycling with good people, united by a common purpose.

We are going to leave Dublin after the demonstration on Saturday the
19th, and cycling for no more than 3 hours in the morning and 3 in
the afternoon every day until we reach Shannon.

Camping will be the
accommodation along the way. And while we have made enquiries into
campsites along the way, WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

The provisional route takes in
Straffan (Sat), Kildare (Sun), Portlaoise(Mon), Roscrea(Tue), Nenagh
(Wed), Limerick(Thu)
OR
Straffan (Sat), Portarlington(Sun), Portlaoise(Mon), Roscrea(Tue),
Killaloe (Wed)

This is a great idea and there's many different ways you can get
involved and help out. Obviously we're looking for anyone who's
interested in cycling from Dublin to Shannon, or joining up with our
cycle along the way.

If you're not able to join us on the cycle
itself you can still help us out with support?

A bit of space is needed for camping along the route. If you know
anyone, or anywhere that we could stay along the way: scout sites,
farms, campsites, back gardens, anything we don't mind!!! Anywhere
within 5 miles of our route would be brilliant. (Straffan is sorted :-)

A car or a van is also needed for support for the cyclists, so
please, don't be shy!

Ring 087 2820906

Or come along to the meeting next Wednesday the 2nd of June in the
Teacher's Club, Parnell Square, Dublin 1 at 7.30pm and get involved!

Superb idea!! Spread the world. Make sure the media is very well informed about this. It is very visual. Not all will cover it, but some will.

Also don't forget about the very visual (media friendly) event - the 25 mile walk from Lahinch beach (starting at dawn) to Dromoland on Sat morning. + Vigil on the beach the night before. Idea is for as many people as possible to wear black bags as a symbolic reference to all the innocent that have been killed. Organized by Fuspey. Full details:-
