Pinochet immunity lifted

category international | crime and justice | news report author Friday May 28, 2004 17:58author by Disaparicido Report this post to the editors

The look on Thatcher's face must have been priceless!

Pinochet had hoped to persuade judges he was mentally unfit to stand trial and the decision came as a big surprise, provoking gasps - and cheers - in the courtroom.

A Chilean court voted 14-9 to strip the former dictator Augusto Pinochet of his immunity from prosecution. The surprise move paves the way for his trial on charges of human rights abuses during his 1973-1990 rule.

Unlike previous cases, the latest lawsuit against Gen Pinochet refers to what was known as Operation Condor. This was a co-ordinated campaign by the Latin American military governments of the 1970s and 1980s to crack down on their suspected opponents.

Previous attempts to prosecute General Pinochet in Chile have been dismissed on medical grounds, with judges persuaded that he is suffering from dementia. His lawyers are expected to make a similar argument when they appeal against the ruling at the Supreme Court within the month.

Hopefully he won't have to wait for hell but will soon be able to get plenty of practice sucking cocks and taking it up the ass!

and the vast majority have not yet been compensated, accounted for, listed in stone and their names writ out.
that's the facts of the case. Pinochet can now be "done" for the role he played in "operation Condor". The Condor is the bird of the Andes, and also the name of the Legion that bombed Guernica for Hitler. the CIA under a previous republican party U.S. administration toppled an elected regime in Chile and placed Pinochet as client dictator.
This news won't make peoples' dreams better, nor will it bring people back from the dead.
