A Peaceful Future for Shannon

Is there a future for Shannon airport and can it survive without servicing the US military ?
What dangers does the militarisation of Shannon airport pose to local people ?
These issues will be addressed at public meetings to be held in Ennis and Shannon which will bring
together two international experts. Economist Richard Douthwaite, talks on alternative development strategies based on economic development work in communities around the world. Henk van der Keur talks on the dangers of munitions to local people due to military flights, based on the experience of the El Al crash in 1992 onto a housing estate in Amsterdam, in which depleted uranium was released.
Richard and Henk will be joined by Shannon Town Councillor Greg Duff.
Everybody is welcome.

There's being a good bit of action at Shannon in the past 18 months so it's good to see people showing initiative to faciltate reflection. Unfortunately some of our crew have already committed to the AFRI Famine Walk in Doolough/Louisburgh on the same date as the Ennis meeting. Still barred from Shannon so will have to tune in via video-link. Would be grateful if somebody could do a comprehensive report on the meeting. Peace, Solidarity, and hope for a demilitarised Ireland and world.

But what she did was illegal, she knew what she was getting herself into. She has to live with the consequences of the choices she makes.

What are you protesting for? some sort of pardon?

She was attempting to prevent the destruction of innocent life in an illegal and unjust war.
Not only is that not illegal, but it's a duty of every citizen under international law.

Bush Bertie and Blair all broke the law and murdered men women and children but none of them are facing any criminal sanctions for their heinous crimes

she was acting to prevent another more serious crime being committed.

but carry it through.
bush bertie blair didn't murder children.
they rather are guily of _not_ preventing that crime from being commited.

it balances well no?
give me a meter stick and a book of tables and I'll get it down to an equation.

Bertie supported their efforts in every way he could.

He was a part of the coalition It was a partnership He should be jointly and severely liable for actions of his partners.

Bush sent out trained killers to kill in Iraq. Bush did the same. Bertie weakly and shamelessly allowed Shannon to be used for refuelling of US planes and transport of Bush's trained killers. All three acted in defiance of massive home and world protest..
All three have very very serious questions to answer.
All through the anti-war campaign anti-war people were shouted down in the corporate media by wise men and women. After Saddam's statue fell the ridicule knew no bounds.
It was as if the fall of a statue had proven the morality of the massacre on the road to Baghdad (likened to killing baby seals, "murder" by Time's hero of that "conquest"). All the killing that happened during bombing, shelling, bombings, sniping, all the maiming, all the futuure deformities and diseases, all the ensuing torture - all of which was predicted by anti-war people everywhere - all were now supposedly "justified" by the fall of Saddam's statue. Forget the cries of babies lsoing limbs and life - we only saw the red glare of "Shock and Awe" in the distance.
Now that the cameras - forbidden to show the worst of the carnage - are showing the results of the torture in the very hands of the perpetrators, there are few who cannot know that this war was evil and our unwilling part in it was evil tooWe can never wash our hans of this evil war.
Mary Kelly, the five Pitstop Ploughsahares, Fintan Lane, Eoin Rice, Jenny and Martin and every other single individual who committed civil disobedienc to expres outrage, horror and opposition to our sneaky part in this massive outrage of darkness (for economic and friendship reasons) deserve our support and gratitude.
