Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land

US media depiction of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Documentary Show & Discussion - Hosted by the South

END THE OCCUPATION- US MILITARY OUT OF SHANNON

Featuring contributions from Noam Chomsky, Robert
Fisk, Hanan Ashwari & others, this excellent 2003
documentary exposes the US media’s reversal of cause
and effect in its reporting of the 37 year-long
occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip & East
Jerusalem by the Israeli military. The film reveals
that only 4% of US network reports even mention in
their coverage that the West Bank & Gaza Strip are
under occupation. Instead, they render the military
occupation invisible by framing it as Israel’s right
to self-defence. Thus ironically, it is always Israel
who “retaliates, responds or reacts” and always the
Palestinian who attacks.

The video also debunks the myth of US neutrality.
Despite the fact that the US has granted Israel over
$100 billion in aid (including helicopter gunships &
F-16 fighter jets) since 1949, it is constantly
depicted as an honest broker to the conflict.

Most recently,President Bush abandoned the alestinians
right to return and supported Ariel Sharon’s plans for
further territorial expansion into the West Bank. When
these criticisms are made in the US, conservative
pro-Israeli think-tanks attempt to silence all dissent
with slurs of “anti-semitism”.

This is an excellent resource for all those
campaigning for peace & justice in today’s world. It
also provides yet another reason why anyone opposed to
the terror of George W Bush & his strategists should
demonstrate on June 25th against the warmonger’s visit
to Ireland.

Ah, the birth of another front!!

author by IAWM memberpublication date Wed May 19, 2004 12:49author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I have just noticed on the IAWM site and it would seem to be confirmed by this posting that the IAWM seems to have divided Dublin into north and south sections. Does this mean that groups like Dorset Street against the War etc, etc. are now officially defunct?
I also noticed that Rory Hearne is now on the steering committee.
Any chance or a report of the general meeting so we can see the future direction of the movement.
There has been no mention of the changes in any of the IAWM recent bulletins.
