Boys in blue scale 8ft wall to remove "offending" flag overlooking health minister's plush hotel

Last weekend a Cork anti-war activist hoisted an Iraqi flag on a pole in his back yard overlooking the exclusive Hayfield Manor Hotel where EU health ministers and the US health minister Tommy Thompson were due to stay for a health summit last week. Within hours the flag was removed.

Thompson and the EU ministers would have had a bird's eye view of the Iraqi flag so it appears to have been taken down by Gardai. Cork Anti-War Campaign Tony Cronin put the flag up on pole inside his own back yard yet someone entered his home and removed it, doing some minor damage in the process.

As he was working outside the city for a few days, Tony was unable to keep an eye on the flag, but he was told by a neighbour that gardai had called to her house inquiring about the owner of the flag and shortly afterwards the flag had disappeared. Several other neighbours and business premises in the area were also visited by gardai in order to trace the flag's owner.
