Disney Scraps Plans for Snow White Premiere to Avoid Anti-Woke Backlash Thu Mar 06, 2025 11:31 | Will Jones
Disney has scrapped plans to hold a star-studded UK premiere of its new Snow White movie over fears of an anti-woke backlash against the troubled live action remake of its 1937 animated classic.

The Gaping Holes in the BBC?s ?Boiling Spring? Story Thu Mar 06, 2025 09:00 | Chris Morrison
The BBC has run a story claiming UK spring temperatures are up 1.8?C. It's alarmist agitprop straight from a Green Blob press release and it doesn't check out when you look at the facts, says Chris Morrison.

Why Are We Funding Arts Council England?s Woke Nonsense? Thu Mar 06, 2025 07:00 | Charlotte Gill
The Javaad Alipoor Company is a theatre company with a woke "nine-point manifesto that drives everything we do". Inevitably, the Arts Council is stuffing it with taxpayers' cash. Why do we fund this crap?

It sounds like one of those things favoured by full-time 'community workers'. Can't see the point myself if it just breaks up the gathering.
.
Hey John,
Although the open space technology idea didn't work wonderfully smoothly i don't think it was a failure. The idea was that people with knowledge, skills or burning interests could volunteer to facilitate a workshop on their subject of choice on the large blank time table thing and people could see what was happening and use the law of two feet to negotiate the workshops to their best advantage.
I'm sure it will work better if it's tried again at the next GG because people will be more familiar with the idea. Getting used to organising without leadership is an anarchist lifeskill I reckon, but it's something we have to learn through practice rather than something we're born with.
I think Open Space Tech is good because:
*It is a more flexible way of organising workshops/teach ins/discussions than preparing a fixed agenda for the weekend (though workshops still rely somewhat on the amount of preparation brought to the weekend by individuals...i reckon the best bit would be for everyone to try to consciously bring something to the GG that could be shared in a workshop or form the basis for discussion)
*In theory it allows people with knowledge and skills to make those easily available (though people have to become very aware of their own strengths in order to make them available to the group...come on, don't be shy!)
I think some of the problems with OST are not really its fault eg. the tendency for informal workshops and discussions to run over time makes OST look bad through no real fault of its own.
Perhaps other forms of organisation could run alongside OST or as an alternative. Maybe something like a speakers soap box where people can take turns speaking about what is important to them in relation to grassroots life the universe and everything. Or maybe even a written down speakers corner: where people can take a moment out from the rest of the days events to scribble down a few thoughts and people can look over and reply to those thoughts over the course of the weekend: this could then be typed and epublished.
The GG in cork was great, I hope to see you all again soon.

This open space technology is the sort of flakey shit that makes meetings a misery. Do we really have to allow these people to experiment on us with their latest fad? It was inefficient and worthless in terms of organising the May Day session. If I hear it proposed again I'll opt for the 'law of two feet' or whatever and leave the fucking building.
"The organisers did not feel that this was the appropriate place to voice this concern"
So it's non-hierarchical as long as you do and say what the organisers "feel" it's appropriate. Interesting notion of non-hierarchical gathering!
"The ensuing discussion [re: current situation with regard to the various anti-war groups and some thoughts on how to move forward] was briefly sidetracked by somebody who had issues with the programme of events for the weekend. The organisers did not feel that this was the appropriate place to voice this concern but the issue was satisfactorily resolved (we think!) and the discussion continued."
Firstly, it is not authoritarian to try to stick to the topic for discussion when there is limited time and much to discuss.
Secondly, when you read the context as shown above, the comment was allowed and discussed. It was merely the opinion of the author (one of the organisers of the event) that the issue could have been resolved with less disruption.
"This open space technology is the sort of flakey shit that makes meetings a misery. "
Yes, of course, getting input from all the people participating in an event is real flakey.
"Do we really have to allow these people to experiment on us with their latest fad? "
Of course you don't, make your own decision.
"It was inefficient and worthless in terms of organising the May Day session."
The article pretty much says as much. It also probes slightly into the reasons why it didn't work brilliantly.
"If I hear it proposed again I'll opt for the 'law of two feet' or whatever and leave the fucking building."
Good, you've got a mind of your own.
All other constructive criticism welcome.
I wasn't at the gathering, but if that's the way you react when someone disagrees with you
I am glad I wasn't.
