Underground, Overground, Wombling Free,
The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we.
Making good use of the things that we find,
Things that the everyday folks leave behind.

Uncle Bulgaria,
He can remember the days when he wasn't behind The Times,
With his map of the World.
Pick up the papers and take them to Tobermory!

Wombles are organized, work as a team.
Wombles are tidy and Wombles are clean.
Underground, Overground, wombling free,
The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we!

People don't notice us, they never see,
Under their noses a Womble may be.
We womble by night and we womble by day,
Looking for litter to trundle away.

We're so incredibly, utterly devious
Making the most of everything.
Even bottles and tins.
Pick up the pieces and make them into something new,
Is what we do!

Ok, pics where more than a bit unfortunate but what is so offensive in the text, at the time it appeared it would be the castle rather than Farmleigh.

Text of article pictured behind the Womble.

Like the blue rinse brigade some may find offence because they need to.

PROTESTERS are planning a 10,000-person human chain around Dublin Castle on May 1, designed to disrupt the Irish government's international celebration to mark EU accession day.

Sixty Irish protesters travel to Paris next week to attend the European Social Forum. There they will plan to make Dublin the centre of anti-globalisation protests during Ireland's hosting of the EU presidency.

The Irish contingent, including Joe Carolan of Globalise Resistance, will be pushing for other protesters to join them in making Dublin another "Genoa". A protester was shot and hundreds of others arrested during demonstrations at the G8 summit in Genoa, Italy, in July 2001.

The activists will be encouraging supporters to join a human chain to encircle Dublin Castle on May 1. Traditionally labour day, it is also the day on which the government plans events for May 1 to celebrate 10 states joining the union.

Other plans include dropping banners from the bridges over the Liffey, with protesters chaining themselves to the bridge to prevent them being removed. There may also be lightning-strike blockades of roads into the city. Vinegar-soaked scarfs will be distributed to protect protesters from CS spray, which the gardai are expected to use for the first time in the event of riots.

Carolan said: "We wish to make Dublin a focus of the protests in the same way as Genoa was during the G8 summit. If something like this is going to work, and these people are going to sit up and listen, we need tens of thousands. We will be calling upon our European colleagues to join us in Dublin."

The government is bracing itself for such protests and has set up a high-level security group that includes senior gardai. Several officers have already been sent abroad for riot training in advance of the summit. Gardai are also to be trained in the use of pepper spray, CS gas and guns that shoot bean-bags this year.

The castle will be the focal point for protests throughout Ireland's hosting of the presidency, as it could be the scene of protracted negotiations about the proposed new EU constitution. Some of the presidency meetings are expected to attract huge numbers of protesters.

Last week, Michael Smith, the defence minister, confirmed to the Dail that the army will provide back-up for gardai during Ireland's EU presidency. Their role will include the provision of security for visiting foreign dignitaries and the protection of vital installations.

The European Social Forum, held in Florence last year, laid the plans for the worldwide day of protest against war on February 15, which brought more than 100,000 people on to the streets of Dublin. The antiglobalisation protesters hope to drum up similar muscle for their demonstrations during the EU presidency.

Members of the Labour party, the Greens and Sinn Fein will also be attending. Mark Khan, a Waterford Labour councillor and executive co-ordinator for the Irish Young European Socialists, said his party would not be encouraging demonstrations in Dublin.

"The social forum is not homogenous by any stretch of the imagination, and it's hard to get consensus as there are people attending right across the left-wing spectrum," he said.

"We won't be orchestrating protests as some more extreme elements may wish to do.

We don't want the Dublin summit to be overtaken or construed as a protest against EU enlargement."

Mark Grehan, a member of the Irish Social Forum and a Sinn Fein activist, said: "What we are hoping to do is network at the event and bring back to Ireland the forms of protest that have been successful for other activists.

"While there, we hope to develop a consensus on how protests about the EU constitution and its neo-liberal agenda can be orchestrated. Due to the position of the presidency at this time, Ireland will of course be central to these."

oFine Gael is to look outside the party for a "replacement" for John Bruton as a candidate for the European parliament elections in Dublin.

Party officials are expected to "sound out" two high-profile figures in the capital this month as potential candidates for the Euro poll in June 2004.

Three likely contenders within the party for the Dublin ticket are Frances Fitzgerald and Brian Hayes, both former Dublin TDs, and Colm MacEochaidh, a barrister and defeated Dail candidate in the last general election.

Hayes is currently Fine Gael leader in the Senate. Fitzgerald recently failed to get selected by the party organisation in Dublin South East as a candidate for next summer's election to Dublin city council.

hopefully things wont get ugly but in case they do there will be first aid workshops for MayDay04 on Wednesday April 28th from 7-9pm in the Student Centre at UCD. The workshops are basic first aid in relation to protest situations.

there comes a day when a young womble wants to know where it came from,
what it's purpose is,
and what's behind the songs,
we know from the written record,
what little survives,
that the wimbledon wombles went north
during moments of crises,
to visit first the wombles of Hampstead,
and thereafter
the wombles of Alba, Scotland, Erse territory of Auld.
like above that icky wall our english and york pals go on about so much.
And there they did meet,
the nomadic wombles,
on their quest for self-realisation,
the wombles of Inverness and thereabouts,
och aye,
freedom!
and stuff like
that

If you go down in the woods today your sure of a big surprise,
If you go down in the woods today you better go in disguise.
For every bear that ever there was, will gather there for certain because,
Today’s the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.

Every teddy bear who’s been good is sure of a treat today,
There are lots of marvellous things to eat and wonderful games to play.
Beneath the trees where nobody sees they’ll hide and seek as long as they please,
That’s the way the Teddy Bears have their picnic.

Picnic time for teddy bears, the little teddy bears are having a lovely time today,
Watch them, catch them unawares, and see them picnic on the holiday.
See them gaily gather bout, they love to play and shout, they never have any cares.
At six o clock their mummies and daddies will take them home to bed,
Cause their tired little teddy bears.

The video is in response to Primetime airing our video and playing it out of context, this video shows how easy that is to do.
Primetime did nothing more than fuel the State sponsored hysteria, (for a cheap headline), poor journalism, very tabloid. We have come to expect more from them.

Stay tuned for the Late Late Late Show…
