Mary Kelly awareness raising in Galway goes well.

category galway | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Tuesday April 06, 2004 14:54author by karen eliot Report this post to the editors

A stall was held on the mainstreet of Galway on Saturday, to hand out flyers and raise the general awareness of Mary Kellys' trial where she could be imprisioned for up to ten years for disarming a US military plane at Shannon Airport.

There was lots of support for the dedicated stall holders who were on the street most of the day from 10:30am till 5:30pm. One of the leafleters was Owen Rice who was recently on hunger strike as a prisioner of conscience in Limerick Prision. Three stalls in the market provided free food and coffee for Owens stint. More can be read of Owens case on the Mary Kelly website link to this story. Over the day people donated 97 euro to the cause. Tommy said he would hold a stall in the mainstreet every Saturday until Marys' trail. It would be great to see such action taking place around the country to support Mary Kelly. Copies of the leafet to download and more information on Mary can be found on her website.

Howye,

just to note that problems are being encountered with getting the leaflet onto the webpage, but it should be fixed soon.

Will post & let ye know when it's up (later today i hope), & maybe people in other towns (especially in Co Clare) could print out a few copies + follow suit...

Well done Owen and the Galway supporters of Mary, but what about the Pitstop Ploughshare's, don't they need support as well.?

Leaflet is up now in GIF format, follow email link on page for .doc version. (See help section on webpage below) Please FEEL FREE to print out and distribute as much as possible.

This is a very important case, its outcome will have ramifications for Shannon, and how direct action is perceived in the eyes of the law.

So I urge everyone to get behind this case, and also the Pitstop Ploughshares/Catholic Workers.

PS: We support the Pitstop Ploughshares & Catholic Workers here in Galway too, make no mistake. At the moment our efforts are focused on Mary's case because her trial is coming up very soon.

Let's get our sweet asses out on the streets, where non-nerds are to be found, and help out with this crucial information / fundraising campaign.

A central permanent defence fund account for Mary / CWs / etc might be of some help.

This needs to get going at a national level - stalls out every Saturaday in all major towns.

As the foolish rationale for aggression further collapses, public support for the heroes of the Resistance will rise - we need to tap into this

Youv'e got it, that's the spirit, TuYaSabes, that's the spirit.

Would be good to see a leaflet that could be used nationally that has both Mary and the Pitstops and well as general information on the on going use of shannon airport.

and Owen Rice for publicising my upcoming courtcase( June ) on the streets of Galway. The support from the street has been fantastic since, and has shown me just how much support there is out there to get the US military out of Shannon civilian airport.
If anyone in other towns would be willing to do a stall before June, that would be very appreciated.

Thanks to all who continue plane spotting and reporting, fighting through the courts, protesting, organising local awareness meetings, writing about the illegal occupation and reporting from Iraq.
