(Dublin) The leader of an Irish teen gang has been handed a slap on the wrist after beating a woman over the head with a bottle and forcing her and her partner to move from their home.

The court was told that the couple had endured a long campaign of torment from the gang of teenage girls. It reached a climax on November 23, 2002 the court was told this week.

The teens began a disturbance outside the women's home, and when one of the women went outside to plead with them to go away, the ringleader, a 16 year old girl, smashed a bottle over the woman's head. She needed multiple stitches to close the wound.

When police arrived on the scene the gang members began to attack the officers.

The harassment forced the women to flee their home. They have not been back since.

In court, the lawyer for the girl, who cannot be named, said his client has since straightened out her life. John Quinn said the girl had no previous attends school full-time and has a part-time job. "She was drunk and less mature at the time of the attack," he said.

Judge Cormac Dunne agreed. The girl was handed a fine amounting to about $750 dollars and gave her four months to pay. If she met the fine, Dunne said he would consider putting her in probation but expunging the conviction, leaving her with no criminal record.

One of the woman later said she felt the sentence was too light.

its ok,im used to getting shit off my fellow "lefties"bcoz of my consistent life ethic stance, but i repudiate the use of severe voilence to settle disputes, there will at least for the next few decades on earth be reactionarys in power who will wipe out whole cities with force without batting an eyelid to do that!!but i always get angry when ppl tell me i have 2 b pro choice bcoz im queer bcoz i do what i want with my body so evry1 shud!!etc.etc.but i view when a woman bcums pregnant that 2 bodies now exist and i also believe children have everyright to be in the womb and have every right to protection, shelter, food etc when born, after all,the child didnt ask to be concieved and no,life on earth in 2004 is not a gift!look around on this website!!im not concerned with the perpetrators of voilence, whether thats butchers, soldiers, welfare mothers, aristocrats, govermental powers,im just concerned that voilence is being used in the first place on sentient beings,i dont believe in different rights 4 different ppl,e.g,disabled rights, queer rights, womens rights, childrens rights, but rather on the rights of man, humanity as a whole, regardless of age, sex, statusetc, have you seen photos of abortions whatever trimester, and still defend it,also, have you seen photos of meat farms and still continue to eat meat,it makes me sick as naomi wolf herself put it"the lexicon of dehumanization"of the fetus such as material, parasite, bunch of cells,so similar to the days of slavery when they were dehumanized so that it looked like they werent even people in the first place and no harm was being done, and also the military euphemisms used recently in the war on iraq such as surgical strikes.collateral damage, softening positions, always trying to make out that either the killing isnt killing or the people werent people, but the killing is killing and the people are people, always!!ppl can say what they like, woman hater, anti choice, zealotetc.etc, ive heard it all b4,along with animal rights wacko, bleeding heart liberal.ill alwyas defend womens rights, born and preborn!!yeahyeah, how dare me as a man even have a view on abortion, blabla,i know.gender is irrelevant in my eyes wheen fighting forppls rights, theirs a growing progressive prolife movement devoid of any kind of bigotry, libertarians for life, lfl have a great website if anyones curious.and as 4 me getting the country wrong i was stoned outta my face, and i seen $ signs and also it was off 365.com which is american so i was very confused, lol, also theirs a dublin in the states 2!!!anyway,peace!!talk soon, paddy

It was in Dublin.
Thanks for the solidarity and I hate to reply to you in such profound disagreement, but I consider the legal denial of abortion rights against women to be violence. A slogan the queer and right to choose movements have held in common has been "Get your filthy laws off our bodies!"

i think thats a disgusting occurence,it makes me sick to hear of all the ignorance still so rampant in modern society,no doubt that the accused would have gotten a heavier punishment had the victims been a hetero couple,im not sure what part of the states that was in but itobviously musnt have been part of the bible belt as no lgbtq people in their right mind would move to such backwardsintolerant part of the usa,my thoughts are with the couple and hope they relocate to somewhere more tolerant and civilised for their own sake.as 4 the accused, hopefully she will open her mind a wee bit and see the whole world that exists right past her nose!!silly ignorant troll!!but thats what happens when certain discrimination and voilence is tolerated,as in the music industry, particularly hiphop, and the people who defend homophobic bigoted artists by making staements bout free speech!!(imagine the uproar if you replaced all the mention of words such as fag, homo, bender and puff with words like spik, nigger etc!!)its hard to imagine bcoz the tracks wud not be recorded in the first place, its so commonplace now for queers to be ridiculed dat people dont usually bat an eyelid, even if they disagree with such bigotry, ive even been at the receiving end of sum comments by dread locked crusty so called liberals in bars!!mind you dats a minority of them, peace and respect to evry1,hopefull sum day well put an end to all forms of prejudice and voilence whether dats:meat, abortion, war, rape, capital punishment, euthanaisa without consent and all types of transgression and voilence and unite like the brothers and sisters we truly are regardless of colour, creed, religion, sexuality, gender and whatever point of human development were at, i doubt ill see it in my lifetime, but well get their, lets continue to work together for our own sake!
