The people of Cyprus must not be subjected to oppression by the MGK and colonialisation by the EU!
The Turkish Cypriot people are to go to the polls on December 14. Bulletin: 30 Date: December 9, 2003
The people of Cyprus must not be subjected to oppression by the MGK and colonialisation by the EU!
The Turkish Cypriot people are to go to the polls on December 14.
In that way the Turkish Cypriots are being compelled to choose between a puppet government of the oligarchy or a puppet government of the EU.
In other words, either fascism under Denktas or colonialism under the EU!
Exactly 29 years have passed since a part of Cyprus was occupied by the oligarchy of Turkey. The oligarchy and its collaborators in Cyprus have sought to present as a success (!) setting up a despotic regime in a territory where there are not even 200,000 inhabitants.
From the operation which they called a "peace operation in Cyprus", up to the present, they have established the contra-guerrillas and the mafia in Cyprus. They moved MHP (Grey Wolves) fascists and their gambling dens to Cyprus. In short, they exported all kinds of dirty, murderous and anti-democratic machinations from their "fatherland" to Cyprus, but they didn't bring "peace".
They succeeded (!) in driving the Turkish inhabitants of Cyprus into poverty and unemployment. For they set up an "oligarchy" there which only Denktas and his entourage belong to. This oligarchy also gets its hands on any aid sent from Turkey.
An attempt is being made to intimidate the democratic opposition in Cyprus with repression and bans. If that does not suffice, the contra-guerrillas do not shrink from bomb attacks and murders.
In this situation there has also been intervention by European imperialism in Cyprus. By creating a pro-EU opposition among the Turkish population of Cyprus, it has sought the "solution" that the oligarchy could not credibly achieve.
As a result of this process the Turkish Cypriots are being pushed to make a choice between these alternatives at the ballot box on December 14. The alternatives offered are enduring continued oppression by the MGK (National Security Council) or becoming a colony of the EU. That is just another kind of dead end. The Cypriot people cannot be condemned to such futility!
The solutions for Cyprus put forward by the MGK and the EU are a dead end! The solution is an independent, united, democratic Cyprus!
Continuing the status quo under the hegemony of the MGK suits the collaborators in Cyprus. A part of the Turkish Cypriots, who have been denied work and the security of their lives and bear the entire burden of "occupation" by their own army, are turning to the EU, thinking that unemployment and occupation can be ended in that way.
But liberation does not come from choosing from the simple and the possible. As can be seen from the Cyprus example, the alternatives made easier by help from the MGK or the EU only make a solution even more remote.
The way to liberation may seem difficult. It might not be achievable overnight; but that does not alter its correctness. The only solution to the "Cyprus problem", the only liberation for the Greek and Turkish peoples of Cyprus, is an independent, united and democratic Cyprus.
That is what all revolutionaries in Cyprus and Turkey should unconditionally stand for. It is just as inadmissible to follow a pro-EU line in the name of realism and alliances as it is to continue the occupation and partition because of the poverty of the people. For 29 years the status of Cyprus has been proof of the oligarchy in Turkey's policy of massacres and occupation. Its lack of concern for laws and its ignoring the will of the peoples has been shown in Cyprus once again in a concrete form. As is the case in this country, the opposition in Cyprus have been branded as "traitors". The oligarchy, which defends the F-Type Prisons with the help of EU resolutions and tries to use UN resolutions to legitimize sending soldiers to Iraq, ignore the fact that the same EU and UN call them an "occupying force" in Cyprus. The oligarchy's attitude to the EU is favourable or unfavourable, depending on its own needs.
But the EU too only favours democracy and the people's will when that suits it.
It was none other than the EU which for decades ignored the occupation of Cyprus in the interests of the imperialist monopolies, and offered the oligarchy every form of economic and political support. The European Union would like Cyprus to belong completely to it, for today, as an "unsinkable aircraft carrier" it has more strategic importance for the imperialists than it had before. Possibly it will only comply with the "basic needs" of the Turkish Cypriots for a time; as is the case in Greece and other countries, exploitation, injustice and unemployment will come back on the agenda after a short time. New collaborationist circles will arise which confiscate EU credits, just like Denktas and his entourage who "confiscate" credits from Turkey. The identity and character of the collaborators will change but not the character of the system.
All these facts clearly show why the "solutions" presented by the oligarchy in Turkey and the European imperialists are not solutions at all.
The solution lies in the struggle for independence and democracy. We will not support or legitimize an alternative based on choosing the "lesser evil". The revolutionary movement in Turkey supports the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot people for an independent, united and democratic Cyprus and will also support this in the future.
