Pro Choice protest at Dáil this evening

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Wednesday November 26, 2003 15:06author by Brendan Young - Alliance for Choice Report this post to the editors

Noise for Choice

There has been much public debate recently about stem cell research, using cells from human sources. Ignored and forgotten is the plight of women with crisis pregnancies, who for whatever good reason wish to terminate their pregnancies.

Alliance for Choice

‘Noise for Choice’

Wednesday November 26, 6pm
The Dáil, Kildare St.

The pro-choice group Alliance for Choice has called a pot-banging protest – ‘Noise for Choice’- outside the Dáil on November 26.

Commenting on the protest, an AfC spokesperson said:

“Amidst all of the furore about stem-cell research, the needs of Irish women with crisis pregnancies are being ignored. The Crisis Pregnancy Agency says that at least 10,000 Irish women have crisis pregnancies every year. We know that approximately two thirds of these – about 7,000 women – travel to Britain for abortions. Meanwhile Fianna Fáil and the PD’s spout platitudes about helping women with crisis pregnancies. But through the Information Act they make crisis situations worse by denying women access to information about clinics in Britain. And they refuse to provide services here for women who choose to terminate pregnancies, including victims of rape or incest, forcing them to go abroad. We condemn this hypocrisy and demand that the voices of Irish women be heard.”

Quote ends.

I think people should go along this evening because there will probably be a demonstration by members of Youth defence against stem cell research outside the dail at the same time and it would be important for the pro choice demonstrators to have support and protection in case the Youth defence people get antagonistic.

Any reports of what happened at this protest and the anti- Aine ni Nazi one in TCD?

about 50 at AFC at Dail. No sign of YD.

No sign of TCDSP protest in TCD, UCD Anti Deportation Ctte were present. It wasnt just Ni Chonaill speaking , it was a debate on demise of Celtic Tiger. Garret Fitzgerald, Sheila Terry FG, Martin Mansergh FF and Michael Murray SBP were also speaking. I had to leave before Ni Chonaill spoke.

Apparently she refused to respond to points made by critics in the audience.

About 40 to 50 people turned up for the Noise 4 Choice event. It was freezing cold out so thank's a million to everyone for showing up. There was no sign of Youth Defense. We banged a few pots and pans and chanted pro choice slogans. I forgot I had my camera in my bag so I've no pictures :o(
Last night was the beginning of a new campaign of pro choice activities in Ireland. There's a lot going on with the continuing war in Iraq, bin taxes, Salonika 7 etc... and the issue of abortion services for Ireland seemed to have been neglected. It's not really that surprising since it's an issue that burns alot of people out, especially activists that have been campaigning since 1983! Were having a meeting on Saturday 29th November in the Teachers Club at 11am to discuss future pro choice events and activites and everyone is welcome (unless your a right wing religious nutter/Dana).
Future plans will be advertised here on Indymedia but if you've got some ideas about future actions/events then email [email protected]

These little buggers should not have to move over for your older life. Give life a chance, and stop protesting for death. Over 55,00 million babies have been murdered to death in the US, a small number compared to the war casualties to oust Hussien.

Studies show women who have abortions are more depressed then the onces who carry them.

To me when a mother does not carry her own she is abandoning her baby, and should be brought up on charges.

Indymedia you are so left wing it is sick. You don't allow information on the illuminati or the cash transactions biochip, but allow support for death and communism. I'm sorry I every spent money in that sick Ireland. I pray I have to never go back to Europe ever. I hope we stop funding to your stupid NATO and the UN. It is a waste of money we do not have.

You should not call this site indymedia, because that is misleading. Stupid me, I know the Queen censors everything. I've known this for years, and excuse me for trying.

I guess all that money coming in from Soros is really changing things. Left or right your funding comes form the same sources.

A close friend of mine recently had an abortion due to serious health complications and if anything creates a depressive environment is self-rightous shits like you calling women murderers. Maybe get out of your safe little pulpit bubble and cop yourself on.

do you really think my friend should be brought up on charges?????? Thats the most stupid thing I have heard in a long long time. Whatever worn out dogma rag your reading from makes you sound like a fool.

So it was you who posted those two items.
'When Cash Is Only Skin Deep' was written by Julia Scheeres, and published on the 'rense' site on 25th November.
The article about the illuminati, Cecil Rhodes, and your friend Adolph was also taken from another site.
They were in breach of Irish indymedia guidelines as they were cross-posted. Instead of ripping off other people's work why not write something original yourself (if you are capable)
Your comment about funding is just further trolling. You are fully aware that Irish IMC is totally voluntary.
Now just troll off into the sunset.

Every foetus is a human being, even just a cluster of cells. It has a right to live and fulfill it's potential.

Abortion is murder, not a lifestyle choice.

You can't say life begins at a certian pint. It is a process. To say an embryo has an equal right to life as a fully grown women is a farce.

J McK
You are a very ignorant person. Every year 10,000 irish women have abortions in Britain. The chances are that a friend or relative of yours has had an abortion. Would you like to say that kind of crap to them?

You pro-baby-killing bastards make me sick to the pit of my stomach. You're worse than the people who supported the holocaust. No-one has the right to kill a child, for whatever reason. You so-called humanitarians make me want to vomit! I believe that if a woman does want to raise a child, she shouldn't have to just because of her gender. However, she should have to give birth to the child, after that it's up to her and the father (if he's interested) what to do. There a plenty of couples out there who can't have children for medical reasons. It just seems to me to be a waste of human life. In response, some of you pinkos might argue that a woman should not have to go through the pain of giving away her baby. In response, I say if she can bring herself to kill her child, she can bring herself to give it to someone who can look after it.
