Greek Embassy fast update

category dublin | miscellaneous | news report author Tuesday November 25, 2003 23:29author by Lordjaysusauthor email lordjaysus at yahoo dot com Report this post to the editors

Seven Irish people are fasting 24 hours as of 12pm today until 1 pm tomorrow when the Greek embassy closes. This is a solidarity action the Thessaloniki 7 who near death. They are outside the Greek Embassy on Upper Pembroke Street (just off Leeson Street). They are accompanied by several supporters and have attached several large banners to lampposts outside the embassy. The Gardai have demanded that the protest move slightly away from the entrance to the embassy. See the reports from before the action here http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=62337 The fasters would appreciate any company if anyone is in the area throughout the night. Although the weather is very cold the rain has been very light so far but the fasters are prepared with tarps and tent sheets attached to the railings of the embassy.

Called over to the protest on my way to work. Despite the freezing overnight weather they were still there and in good spirits. They had a counple of Gardai parked across the road all night to keep an eye on them. They should still be there till 12-1 if you are in the area.
