The Vatican has never been a friend to Ireland. In 1159 Pope Adrian IV (aka Nicholas Brakespeare, an Englishman) granted Henry II the right to invade Ireland in order to civilise the Gaelic tribes.

In 1317, Domhnall O'Neill and 22 other Gaelic Chieftains wrote a letter in Latin to Pope John XXII asking for his support in their struggle to oust the invaders (read excerpts from it on the link).

The Pope sided with the English.

Don't trust the Vatican, even if you are a Cathoic, the Vatican puts the future of the Vatican first.

We were never taught this bit at skool.

Sechall, Chill dude

..Trust the Tale and Not the Teller "War is Always a Defeat for Humanity"
..sounds pretty good. It's author is hardly the most significant point to be drawn from this collection of photos from the non-sectarian viewer.

I'm not a Catholic and am not a Social Democrat but JP2 has had a much better position on the3 last 3 wars than most of the Labour Parties in Britain, Australia, Ireland etc.

THEY'RE ON TRIAL FOR US,
WE'RE ON THE STREETS FOR THEM!

Join the Pit Stop Ploughshares
at Dublin's Four Courts, Nov 19th

On Wednesday Nov. 19th, 2003, U.S. President George Bush visits London and the Pit Stop Ploughshares are back in Dublin's Four Courts for pre-trial arguments in front of their trial judge. George W. Bush finds the time to visit Buckhingham Palace, but has yet to find the time to attend a funeral of any of the 300+ young men and women of the U.S. military he has sent to their deaths in Iraq. He has yet to visit any of the wounded or amputees of this war in any Veteran Hospital in the U.S. The history of war veterans trashed and abandoned by their Governments is a long and cynical one.

92,000 U.S. troops, weapons, & cruise missile components have passed through the civilian Shannon airport this year. Aer Rianta have made 11 million euro in blood money, the Pit Stop Ploughshares have been charged with 2 million euro 'criminal damage.' Some of the young men and women who passed through Shannon have made the return trip from Iraq in body bags. TV images of coffins returning to U.S. Military bases have been banned by the U.S. Government.

The Pit Stop Ploughshares disabling of a U.S. Navy War Plane at Shannon was one of the many acts of nonviolent resistance to this war. These brothers and sisters are on trial and may be imprisoned for their resistance to an illegal and unjust war for oil and expanding the US/UK empire.

Many thanx for folks who turned up to accompany us to court and those who sent email, text messages etc. Our support is multi/no faith all traditions are celebrated, respected and drawn upon in our opposition to this war. we had a good collection of squatters, seminarians, agnostics, priests, poets, farmers, drifters, old and new freinds yesterday.

Many thanx for those continuing nonviolent resistance to this war - at the moment those in Endgland resisting the Bush visit (nice one Lindis Percy on the gates of the Palace) AND those planning to return to Shannon on the 6th.

The theme of our gathering was solidarity with other brothers and sisters before the courts and in jail for nonviolent resistance.

We had produced Shannon peace cards for folks to sign at the Alexander Cockburn gig the previous night and will post them off, when we fill them up.

I will also paste up some addresses on indy of resisters in jail to write to. December 1st. is World Peace Prisoners Day and the War Resisters League publish a pretty comprehensive list.

MEANWHILE INSIDE THE FOUR COURTS
We appeared before Judge Matthews, for rulings on pre-trial motions related to discovery etc.

Judge Mathews has since been seconded to do a "terrorist" (no jury) trial in the next session and doubts his availability for our trial. He was unclear on whether he should rule on pre-trial motions for a trial he may not be available to judicate. So we return this Monday Nov. 24th. to clarify that. If he is to rule on the motions that is likely totake place on Nov. 15th.

From all us Paddys in Australia. We give our solidarity and support to the Shannon resistance crew. Fight War - Not Wars. Bush and Blair should be the ones on trial for crimes against humanity. A big hello to Ciaron and Treena. Keep up the great work guys - afflicting the comforted, comforting the afflicted.

From Jimmy, Melissa, Ciara, Tara, Eirin, Mitch, Pam, Eamon, Conor, Michaela, Pamela, John, Theresa, Peter, Kate, Slaine and all the rest of the gang.

P.S. It looks cold over there. We're roasting here, a nice 32C most days. I'm off for a cold beer and a swim.

Sometimes events are beyond the scope of human planning. Ironic that the CW5 was in court and George Bush was in a UK palace on the same day!
