Wentwoth not coming to Trinity - No platform won!

category dublin | miscellaneous | news report author Thursday November 13, 2003 20:22author by I hate the hist! Report this post to the editors

No platform very successful in Trinity!

It was revealed last Tuesday that the invitation issued to Tony Wentworth chairman of the Young BNP was withdrawn by Trinity College due to the opposition of students and the likelyhood of a major protest involving the left, trade unions, and many other concerned individuals.

A campaign against wentworth speaking in Trinity and arguing for NO platform had already developed with, SF( I wasnt aware of the SF persons name) The SP (Shane Kenna), SWP (Connor Kostick), Residents against racism, leading members of the College including Ivana Bacik giving their support and some independents playing a leading role in building opposition.

Outside the college it was a known fact that certain groups were actively organising for the meeting.

Many academic staff had signed a letter indicating their displeasure at the invite of a hardened fascist to Trinity, also the security staff were oppossed to his visit.

The "Phil" who had invited Mr.Wentworth over had argued that people should make their own minds up about this man, and that generally he would probally make a fool of himself.

One minor point is to note that the WSM and the Trinity Anarchist Society were also involved in building for the mobilisation against the fash. Although fair play to Connor and Shane in particular as I got the impression that they were doing the bulk of the work. By the way, is Connor still a member of the SWP, since I didn't think that the SWSS was part of the no-platform crowd?

But I have to say that there were key activists in the Campaign who done outstanding work more so than anyone else (in hindsight far more than I or anyone else in the campaign did) and without them the campaign wouldn't have been such a success within Trinity. These were (I have omitted surnames for privacy's sake but if they are on line and reading this they will know who they are)Rosanna, Vanessa,Matt and Jennifer.

We all played a key role in this campaign to coin a phrase everyone anti fascist or otherwise had a role - we had made it clear that no single individual nor organisation can take credit for the success of this campaign.

To all those involved well done and thanks!

here i am again to bore, or be censored. The supression of anyone's right to free speech is a disgrace and the perpetual reincarnation of the facist-leftist pitched battles of the past, which the various socialist groups seek is their fatal flaw. You will never (NEVER) progress beyond the margins until you can accept dialogue.

No free speech for facists.
We refuse to share a forum with facists
etc etc

Remeber you decide who is a facist. Who ever conferred you with such an absolute power???

Absolute power = facism

ENJOY THE WILDERNESS

The SF speaker was former Trinity student Kilian Forde.

Also at the meeting was a fascist spy. Guy sitting at front with the poppy, black hooded sweatshirt, and tight cut blondish hair. don't know his name but a trinity lecturer pointed out problems he has created before and said he is a undergrad student.

If these people were fascist, who is their leader considering all fascists are based around a leader? Maybe their just racists? fascism has an idology associated with it, not just racism, but corporatism, cult of the leader, militarism, etc

Who are they to deicide on behalf of the "workers" wh othey can and can't listen to.

It's Stalinism.

I am going to lead protests the next time a member of the SWP is invited to speak. They incite hatred too, in a more incidious way, by provoking "class warfare".

Time to censor the communists too.

Fascists want to smash freedom of speech. Socialists and the SWP do not. Socialists and the SWP defend freedom of speech for everyone but fascists including FF, FG, PD, Labour, Green, SF, RSF, and all the right wing micro parties. But Fascists are a different kettle of fish, they are not interested in polite debate or in democracy. They want to smash democracy, thery want to expel all immigrants, they deny the holocaust happened, they want a pure white race, they want to smash trade unions.

Facists are DIFFERENT?I thought it was people like the BNP who went around calling people different and putting them in different "special" categories. It is unfortunate to see that the BNP have had some influence, causing you to copy them.

Bet that makes Alexender Solishyhien[sic] and numerous other writers of the former East blocks who dared to write anything off cue of the free speech loving socialist govts, all liars then??
Socialists are not much better than their hard core commie brothers .Ditto facists and Nazis.
Neither group should be allowed free speech.

He/she/it titles his rant "Shut up Keogh! you're talking shite!".

This from a free speech loving communist.

If you only want to stop fascists from speaking why did you want the democratic BNP stopped from talking?!!!
I've already pointed out the differences on the original tread and how you trend lefties are jealous of them.
