Tens of thousands attend U.S. anti-war march

category international | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Monday October 27, 2003 01:13author by Fintan Lane - IAWM and Cork Anti-War Campaignauthor email corkantiwar at hotmail dot comauthor phone 087 1258325 Report this post to the editors

Tens of thousands of anti-war protesters converged on Washington on Saturday evening to demonstrate their opposition to the U.S. occupation of Iraq.

With the American occupation facing stiff resistance on the streets of Iraq, the resurgence of the U.S. anti-war movement is an especially welcome development. Moreover, it's a reminder to those who've willfully forgotten that many, many Americans are actively opposed to the aggressive foreign policy of the Bush regime. Protesters travelled from more than 140 cities and towns across the U.S. and Canada. Ramsey Clarke and Martin Luther King III were among the speakers. Meanwhile, thousands also attended a similar demonstration in San Francisco.

The anti-war movement continues to thrive in the U.S. and across the globe - something to bear in mind as we build for the blockade of Shannon airport on December 6th. They haven't won yet.

FACT!

Majority of protestors were students.

FACT!

Those who were not students were not protesting against the concept of warfare, some are the very same people who supported the war.

FACT!

This is not a breakthrough for the AntiWar movement, this is the customary protest of relatives of troops, their grievance is understandable.

FACT!

We'll always have war, don't delude yourself that it can be otherwise.

Calling something a FACT! does not make it a FACT!

Yeah, four sentences, and shouting the word 'fact' (by putting it in capitals) four times, does not really amount to a comprehensive analysis of the story.

(to add to the collection)

fact "under-rated" : we shall always have peace.
fact "under-valued" : we shall always have each other.
fact "under-estimated" : we shall always be remarkably complex and intelligent.
