Ructions in PSEU

category dublin | bin tax / household tax / water tax | news report author Tuesday October 21, 2003 17:34author by Angry Civil Servant - PSEU Report this post to the editors

Another stab in the back from Dan Murphy

The Public Service Executive Union has issued a circular to all branches in response to a stream of enquiries to head office about the unions stand on the bin tax

The circular, dated 17 October, quotes the motion from the 2001 Conference which clearly binds the union to supporting the campaigns. However General Secretary Dan Murphy has other ideas. He attaches David Beggs stab in the back statement from ICTU for good measure. Interestingly this circular hasn't been distributed electronically but I quote the last two paragraphs:

"The current campaign involving refusal to pay, prevention of refuse collection and seeking publicity by deliberately courting jail sentences for the flouting of court orders is clearly a political campaign and courld hardly be described as 'legitimate' and is not organised by ICTU"

"In that context, the Union did not participate in the demonstration organised by the Dublin Council of Trade Unions last Saturday and the Union's representative abstained on the vote at the Council meeting."
