Big Protest called for Monday 7.30pm : Garden of Rememberance: Against Jailing of Joe/Clare .

category dublin | bin tax / household tax / water tax | news report author Friday September 19, 2003 18:44author by ec Report this post to the editors

And against Bin Tax.

The whole thing will certainly make heroes of Joe and Clare especially with the Juxtaposition thing that is going on with the two dublin West TDs at present in all news reports.

Ruth Coppinger announced it on 5/7 live and called on the unions who are 'officially' opposed to the bin tax to get the finger out and support the campaign in a meaningful way.

She was repeatedly asked if She personally would blocade trucks on Monday. She did not commit herself to doing so and - surprisingly I thought - did not take the opportunity to encourage others in any real way to continue to do so. Just a mumble at one point saying she thought others would continue.

Methinks - if the stomach for it was there - planned mass arrests would be the most effective way forward if there is to be hope for the campaign. Is the stomach for such an approach out there? I kind of doubt it considering the fact that during the (much more emotive) campaign against US use of shannon this kind of 'Ghandian' approach did not emerge at any stage for all the talk of 'salt marches' at the time.

The whole thing will certainly make heroes of Joe and Clare especially with the Juxtaposition thing that is going on with the two dublin West TDs at present in all news reports.

Despite being implacably opposed to both voting and many of the underlying tenets of the SP I'm severly tempted to give Joe H a vote in support of his position.
