I've had a quick look and haven't seen it on other sites. If you post three other newswires where this appears, I'll delete it.
But I wont tell you where! I dont want it deleted, I was just making a point.
I was idealistic and full of hope for the future... Then I encountered the IMC editors.
But non-cynical me of course, thinks that this is very relevant information to ALL indymedia users worldwide, so I think it should be posted up on ALL sites.
I was being sarcastic.
You & I agreeing on something - I think we must have gotten out on the wrong side of bed this morning! I'm going gettin a cup of coffee ;)
as such it weaves through the editorial guideleines with deft skill and cocks a snook at those who would limit the editors pleasure which by looking at the comments lasted almost 90 minutes.
The original posting was on Germany indymedia but I "edited" the info on Belgrade, as we know about that already (don't we) and put links to the graffiti in Berlin in the middle (coz I like pushing urban decay).
Anyway the point is: I have now tested whether or not it is possible to put any shite on the newswire as long as it contains some information on Indymedia, the folks in Oirland haven't read before.
Because I can assure you that we can and will delete shite in the future. Just because you managed to stay on the right side of the line this time doesn't mean that the line no longer exists.
I know where the line is.
I've seen the blessèd shmuck.
(it got's a heavenly glow a scissors and a dotted line....cut cut cut....)
anyway any good contributor will appreciate the guidelines and editorial comments, even though they are a bored lot, they do a good job, and keep indymedia safe for all of us. %-)
Please tell me you werent serious in that last post. Or at least your tone wasnt serious. If you were then you are living up to the dread IMC Editor image as caricatured by so many.
I delete ten stories before breakfast each day. I can blow up computers with a wave of my hand. Posters that annoy me are disappeared on a regular basis. The 'dread IMC Editor' image is of me on a good day.
And even on good days, I have a fairly low tolerance for bullshit and nonsense.
We all bow to your might oh chosen one and just hope that we escape your vengeful wrath.
The new codebase for indymedia.ie does nothing to enforce a sound editorial policy.
And the IMC-ireland-editorial mailing list doesnt seem to have any archives. (fix this please).
So the only way to participate in the censoring bullshit is to not have a life and read 50 automated mails a day.
Why don't you just dispense with the pedantics and have a moderated site. You'd save people the wasted time that they lose when they lose posting comments to articles that just get removed anyway.
You'll let people shite on about circumcision but you wont let visitors to ireland from well organised european alternative media groups announce they're leaving.
Get up off your arses, stop bitching about your lack of resources and keep the site up.
Vinnie wastes his time dealing with you lot.
Though this was supposed to be about new sites at St.Louis (Missouri, USA), and Puerto Rico (USA) the link to St. Louis somehow got left out.
Here 'tis: http://stlouis.indymedia.org/
It's an important one because, for one reason, St. Louis is the home of Monsanto, the firm working day and night to shove GM "food" down the throats of wisely reluctant Europeans.
The site in Puerto Rico is important, for one reason, because this is where the US Navy did test bombing at the coastal island of Vieques. Now, after the effective protests, U.S. bomb training is going on in Korea and, I believe, somewhere on the coast of Scotland.
Editorial archives are available to anyone who joins the mailing list. You can join the list but opt not to receive mail, and still read the archives.
People can bitch about circumcision in the comments to a news article that deals with circumcision. They can't post new articles without news content.
Why don't you stop your whining about the posts you've lost? Make a contribution or shut the fuck up.
puerto rico, perhaps others, is not on the left list of imc's - therefore this is a useful post, me thinks.
Well,at least the archives are back working a bit, however they aren't current. So there is no public record of recent censorship.
I dont have time to waste sifting through 50 mails a day.Archives are a vital part of mailing lists.
I haven't lost any posts. My contributions are highly valued I reckon.
People lose their posts because they contravene editorial guidelines, or because they are comments to an article that contravenes those guidelines. The guidelines are more strictly applied to articles, because article space is more limited. Contributions that would be deleted as worthless if they were posted as articles will generally be let by if they are only comments.
In other words, don't wear yourself out patting yourself on the back.
Nah,I reckon I'll just keep patting myself on the back.It isn't as much fun as flame wars though.
The IMC editorial policy on paper is a good policy, but its applied only when it suits the editors. When something objectional is posted (in the collective opinion of the IMC-editorial list),it is scrutinised for "infractions".
However when something agreeable is posted,it is less likely to be scrutinised and editorial policy is "interpreted" accordingly. An example of this would be the crossposts that have been on the site for the last 24 hrs(regarding the Linux conference in Britian). This is "democratic censorship".
I agree there is a need for an editorial policy, but if your gonna have one it has to be done in an objective and administrative way.I doubt anyone on the editorial list has an objective view regarding indymedia.ie
However,I've now probably caused you to be more anal about supposed "power".
So,are you gonna tell me to shut the fuck up again? Is the extension of telling people to shut the fuck up your censoring "power" ??
You gotta do your job,but I think I have a point.
I think more effort should be put to keeping the site up and giving Vinny a break (you all suck his cock while he does everything),instead of defending your assumed authority
whinin on an on bout how other people godda do things an feckin swearin all the bleedin time an makin sexsual comments. wot a fuckin doss, comin on an givin out stink an not spellin proper loike. fukken crackhead.
Oh dear, we're not 'objective' enough for nuker? Just as well all of his comments are completely disinterested. Not a hint of subjectivity there.
And I do apologise for suggesting that you shut the fuck up. In my defence, how was I to know that someone telling us to 'get off our arses', 'stop bitching', complaining about people 'shiteing on', and signing himself 'nuke the yids' would have such delicate sensibilities?
folks (it's gender nuetral, maybe that's why dubya uses it so good), only for the fact that I read this on a public newswire I'd have to say i hoped none of yer debates on IMC.ie editorial policy were in the public domain.
ray, maybe you need to find a non-nestle alternative and go have a break man, now that risible seems to be getting over his slash and burn policy, making some good considered contributions rather than just deleting everything halfway nuts, you seem to be taking over once more as the main target of the flamefesters and trolls. Fuck 'em, but try to keep the language someway civil.
Isn't oscailt supposed to have a ratings system so we can all experience the joy of pushing some sectarian trolling nonsense to the bottom of the newswire. doesn't it also have a login system so (any)one could get editoral privilages?
I think you'll find that I was the original editorial hate figure. Sure, s/he may have a few nice moves, but the crown is still mine!
The ratings system was part of another codebase that was once proposed as an alternative for the site. It was also pretty good, but it needed some customisation that we just never got around to doing and there were some issues about it, such as the fact that it wasn't free software. One of the major things we wanted to do was make good stories easier to find - ratings were one way of doing that, but I think the Oscailt system of categorisation and easily created features is another good way.
Forgot to mention. Editors log in to the site to get their control over the newswire. Each editor has their own id, created by Vinnie. To become an editor, you just mail the editorial list and volunteer. If you're a regular poster or participant in the mailing lists, you'll almost certainly be approved, and you'll get an editorial login. Anything one editor does is visible to all the other editors, and can be undone if necessary, so we're happy for there to be lots of editors.
A ratings system is a great plan, just like the slashdot.org model. You can just do away with all that fog of bullshit.
Wasn't the idea of the new "hide story" oscailt codebase that there was meant to be a list/website of stuff that got moderated.
Because without that, indymedia.ie isn't an open-publishing site. You failed to respond to any of my arguments above and instead just got defensive.I never suggested I was objective, but I dont have to be! Im not a censor. (Im a yid nuker)Delicate sensibilities?? Thats an even bigger insult than telling me to shut the fuck up.If you said to me in the street that I had delicate sensibilities,I'd have to remove your kneecaps with a bolt chisel.
However I'll let it slide this time....cos you seem to know what a yid is and not a lot of people know that.
