What about appealing to Coca Cola workers in Ieland to have solidarity action?

Why don't we discuss the mood among the Coca Cola workers in Ireland, surely these are the most important group in Ireland in this matter. Surely the campaign should concentrate in building for action among Irish coca cola workers.

Also we should debate whether or not the campaign should call for blacking of cocal cola products by workers in restraunts and shops. I think that the campaign nor the unions in these sectors are as yet string enough for us to make that demand.

Is there as vociverous a boycott of Nestle, or dont they count, as Europeans?

This only makes sense if Coke, not the local bottler, actually paid or compelled the paramilitaries to abuse union organisers. Ohterwise the boycott is misplaced, and frankly, somewhat morally vain.

That's alright. Don't worry about it. The point is that you couldn't deplete the resources allowed under this years four year plan -- it takes everyone working together to do that. Please don't. If you're creating original work like this then great. If, however you had been pasting them from some other source then it would have been a waste of resources.

Sorry for seeming condescending. It was not my intention. It was an enquiry coupled with a general message directed at all readers -- I am worried that the ability to upload graphics (which take up a good deal of space) is going to be wasted by contributors cutting and pasting images from other sources. This already happens with print articles and would be much more of a problem with graphics.

A video will be shown this evening to mark the start of the boycott. The video, obtained recently from Colombia, is entitled "SINALTRAINAL Demands Justice," lasts 38 minutes and is in English. It details the case against Coca Cola, and will be preceded by a 10-minute talk on Colombia to put it in context.

Venue: LASC, 5 Merrion Row (Above the new Centra shop, opposite O'Donoghue's pub)

Time: 7:30 to 8:30 pm

The boycott in Ireland will officially be launched at the top of Grafton Street on Saturday 26th July, with street theatre and music from 12 to 3 o'clock. Come along and enjoy the show. Offers of help and participants will also be welcomed.

I too have to commend JEVC for his / her excellent work at subverting Coca Cola's images. The {problem} with the images is that they are of such high quality that it's obvious that a lot of work went into creating (sorry, I meant amending) them.

When I first saw the images, I jumped to the conclusion that they probably came from another site. I must be getting cynical because I don't expect originality to equate with high quality in comments to articles on Indymedia Ireland. It's not quite a case of "never the twain shall meet" but more often than not, we get either originality or quality - though often neither.

However after looking more closely, I saw the www.indymedia.ie in that recognisable typeface. Later, while searching on the Web for Coca Cola images for my own little purpose, I came across what I presume to be the original of the second image - http://www.flukestudio.com/coke.html

Don't be too sarcastic with R Isible. The points he makes still apply as the intention behind them is to keep Indymedia as a space where work as good as yours can shine and stand out on its own rather than being lost among flotsam and jetsam from other sites.

questions questions questions - jeez...
here are all the answers from the Indymedia interrogation room:

1. The original producers were indeed the CocaCola Corp. - credit due to them and their excellent illustrators and printers. I merely amended them. The original work can be found if you trawl the web.

2. Duplication was also carried out on the images

3. The typefaces were similarly pilfered, and text/tone and certain new colours were edited in. The images spent some time in a place called "Photoshop".

4. I am aware my 60k of combined filesize has probably depleted my, and everyone elses annual Indymedia Freespeech Allowance. I apologise for this unreservedly.

5. The answer to you earliest question is that the images were amended, not "created" as an attempt to doggedly, and dogmatically follow the Indymedia Rule you outlined earlier: To Contribute Something Original.

I have clearly failed in this excercise, given that you have correctly, and with some probity, established that I did not Create something 100% Original. There were several clear copyright infringements not to mention potentially damaging issues of corporate slander and Font Theft.

I undertake to desist from similar crimes of graphical impulsiveness in the future.

I suggest Indymedia maybe examine this issue and set up a committee to vet future uploads which aren't wholly Creative or deserving of IMC server space.

Did you make them yourself and post them here, or did you mean to post an URL to their original source? If it's the former, then fair play. If it's the latter then you're doing two things: 1. Not attributing credit to the original producers of those images. 2. Duplicating material which is already available and thus wasting indymedia.ie's hard drive space. The point of allowing uploading of images is so that when you go out on an anti-Coca-Cola demonstration in Ireland you can take pictures of it and contribute something original. Just whacking up images that you found somewhere else means that it's harder for people that are creating their own media to find somewhere to put it. Thanks for your co-operation in making indymedia.ie an independent and original news source.
