Audioslave: surfing and servicing

category national | arts and media | news report author Sunday June 22, 2003 16:01author by paul cummins - trying to write independent mediaauthor email chewy at redbrick dot dcu dot ie Report this post to the editors

When Audioslave (previous Rage Against The Machine + Chris Cornell) were at the point on Wednesday 18th of June they contacted Irish action groups to have stalls at their concert to promote peace.

Audioslave a website you could check out http://www.audioslave.com/(go to the activism link) RATM have a long history of political activism http://www.ratm.com/

With short notice the IAWM and Gluaiseacht prepared leaflets etc for two stalls at the show.
Unfortunately due to a sever case of last minute-itus and technical difficulties Indymedia could not set up a stall but the Gluaiseacht table had our indymedia flyers (ta:)) inviting people to join the working group and hundreds of flyers were handed out aswell as numerous young people coming up to sign up to Gluaiseacht or the IAWM mailing lists. The Gluasieacht table handed out lots of information about environmental issue particularily Esso.

It’s a great example of the power of positive action against war and use of music in politics.
Chris Cornell did not say anything during the show but on their last big song they unfurled a huge peace sign over their own logo, which received a cheer.

that was might have been a mistake to call it an iawm stall but im sure the piles of leaflets you see were iawm leaflets and there was just a handful of
papers, you know as well as anyone people are members of many groups theres nothing wrong with that... in itself

Tell us why there were copies of Socialist Worker on the IAWM stall. The main article says it was an IAWM stall.

Are you awake Aoife/Richie?

Of course there were people there wearing 'che' tshirts, Audioslave are political and many of their fans are too, although most would run a mile from the boring trotskyist losers who constantly bore the few people who bother to read Indymedia any more.

Maybe because the audience was mainly middle class twats that visited Asha to buy the odd Che Guevara t-shirt call themselves anarchists because they do fuck all and then critisise socialists because they would do away with their private housing.

The IAWM table was in fact an swp table....no suprise there.....but nearly all the flyers that went out from that table seemed to end up on the floor with no effort made to clear them up after!
good nite tho with alot of positive interest shown.

have you ever checked down the back of the sofa to find coins from far flungs parts of the world and you have no idea how they got there....well this is also how SWP publications find there way into your posession..... it is unexplainable. But think about it you'll never ever have any use for any of these items....

Then why were copies of Socialist Worker on the table?
