Bush must be stopped!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Opposition to Bush & to Capitalism is growing and must continue to grow... The world is increasingly beginning to unite in its revultion of the capatalist policies of George Bush Jr. This is examplified by the large protests in Germany over the last few days over Bush's arrival there today (see picture on front page and report on Irish Times below). He must be stopped! Everyone, through their own small individual actions or larger actions through various organisations must stop him and try to get across to the American people the awfulness of his ways and the millions who suffer or die all across the world as a result of his actions. He even went against the wishes of his own people the other day when he refused to lift the sanctions against Cuba despite the wishes of the majority of Americans and also ex-president Carters recent visit there. 200,000 marched in Madrid the other weekend against capatilism, exploitation and war. There should be more Huge protests at the EU summit in Seville on June 21-22. Plans are being put in place to mobilize an Irish contingent for this. Yours with best wishes, Michael Ronan O'Connell. He will then fly to Moscow and sign a nuclear weapons disarmament treaty before continuing to Paris, and then to Rome for a NATO meeting. President Bush will receive a frosty welcome in Berlin today, compared to the reception given to previous US presidents. Over 200 demonstrations are planned, from anti-globalisation and anti-Israel protests to demonstrations against US military, environmental and trade policies. A protest organised by the "Axis of Freedom" drew over 17,000 people to Alexanderplatz in the city centre yesterday. The demonstrators carried placards reading: "Warlords not wanted" and "War is terror, stop the Bush fire". However, a Green Party rally to demonstrate their "critical solidarity" with the US ended in chaos yesterday when left-wing demonstrators stormed the stage screaming "traitors" and "hypocrites" and doused a party leader in lemonade. The foreign minister, Mr Joscha Fischer, who is a Green Party member, said it was "in everyone's interests" that today's demonstrations remain peaceful. He said riots "would send a very ugly anti-American picture across the Atlantic". Police closed off the government district around the Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate from early this morning. © The Irish Times
