WE NEED MONEY! Call for solidarity WE NEED MONEY! Call for solidarity
By now you probably already know the case of Martin Shaw. This English electrician, resident in Barcelona , is in hospital in Lausanne, recuperating from serious injuries caused by the police cutting his rope, suspended from a bridge, which was holding him 21 metres above a shallow river. Martin and another companion were suspended from the bridge over the Ginebre/Lausanne motorway ,with the goal of blocking the G8 delegates from going to Evian. This was an action against the G8, their exclusionary politics, genocides and ecocides, and their illegitimate position of power over the destiny of the world.
Now the situation for Martin and his family is very serious. Martin is in a hospital bed, on morphine, with only the right to receive visits from his family and three other people. All his close family live in the UK and don't have the money to stay in Barcelona. Some of the participants in the action face charges from the Swiss State, including Martin and the other climber. As well, Martin and his family may have to pay very high medical and legal costs [70000 euro], including the costs of the logistical support for the support team .
The intention is for the Swiss State to pay all of the expenses, as well as for the long-term costs of his injuries. But this is not guaranteed due to the repressive character shown by the Swiss State, and won't be available quickly enough. It is for this reason that we launch this call for international solidarity with Martin, the activist who participated in this anti-G8 action.
We will do everything possible to make sure that the authorities pay, (for which money is also necessary ) .We've created an association to oversee all the money we can collect. This association will act as an International Permanent Resistance Fund oriented to giving financial support in situations of repression. In this manner, we hope to create a permanent and transparent fund.
Accounts have already been opened in the UK, Spain, and Switzland.
In Spain the account number is:
0081-0055-44-0006151525 Banc De Sabadell Chek if it is in Esther Cerro's name or in Martin's name.
Finally, we want to clarify that we are not accusing the Swiss State just to make it pay it as high as possible compensation. Our main objective is a political judgement which makes clear the culpability of the politicians and of the hierarchy who designed the repressive measures around the G8 ,the Swiss State and the member states of the G8. Our intention is avoid possible future cases like this. That's the battle.

Martin Resiste!!!!!!!!!!
The correct sentence is:
That's the battle against the unpunished!!!!!
An other correction... some of the Martin's family are staying in the Swiss state, not in Barcelona.

[ editorial comment by R Isible. Ergela, please do not abuse the newswire by posting related items as separate newswire posts. It means that you steal attention from other posts on the newswire. I've moved this post to become a comment on the earlier story. I also note that this story is nearly identical to the one posted on IMC-UK. Despite Barcelona's warmest summer of the last 20 years, these two people and all the rising group of supporters in front of the building have been resisting for more than 80 hours now.
More than 80 hours hanging from the Swiss consulate building!!!! And resisting still!!!!!!.
Despite Barcelona warmest summer of the last 20 years, this two people and all the rising group of support people who is in front of the building have been resisting more than 80 hours until now.
Their demands are:
1. The immediate release of all prisoners who remain detained and imcommuincate since the G8 summit.
2. The complete withdrawal of criminal charges against all activists present during the bridge action.
3. A transparant, independent public inquiry into the training and orders and the general policing/security policy that surrounded this G8 sunnit. This public inquiry should also contain a specific invesitigation of the police team responsible for cutting the rope that caused the fall and subsequent injuries to Martin Shaw and his fellow activists.
4. The Swiss government to sign a written statement committing to take full responsibility for the acts of its police. This commitment to culpability should include the pledge to fully compensate all injured parties present during the bridge action, and other individuals who have incurred medical or judicial costs as a result of violent repression by the apparantly immune Swiss police forces.

you get the feeling we are going all ·out· on this?
by IOSAF Mon, Jun 16 2003, 7:26pm
yes.
not just O as'if giving you news about Barça, oh no, tis everywhere, RTE telling you about Beckham, will he sign won't he sign¿? and everyone else with a wee bit of Bearla assaulting the IMCs.
so what has happened?
Martin Shaw, briton "puadeen imigrant" resident in Barcelona (Catalonia which is not Spain), dropped 20 metres protesting against the G8 (which does not include either Ireland or Spain [they are not "great" enough yet] he dropped because a Swiss Policeman who like all Swiss recieved 3 years military training, cut his rope.
=Attempted Murder.
20 metres is about 60 foot.
a two storey Irish house is about 8 metres.
Liberty Hall at the eight story is about 20 metres.
So the good folk of Barcelona went and occupied first the French consulate, you may have seen the video, and then the Swiss consulate, they even went and disrupted the newlty elected municipal assembly's investiture.
-& now two of them are hanging off the same building which houses the Irish consulate.
And Martin is well enough to write you all a letter.

and it is ·very· hot.
Now that normally pisses off people who live in the islands once referred to as the British Isles, [Ireland is not Britain] coz they get all "jaysus well fur some, effin 37º, watsdat in Farenheit, bleedin scorchin".
yes.
horrible.
Help Martin.
now if you have tried the "freedom of Capital thing" and gone to your local branch of the AIB, BofI, Ulster Bank, TSB etc., you maybe have lodged something like the "price of a pint/spliff".
or maybe you haven't.
an account set up in Ireland would be a good idea, coz Ireland has two currencies!
yes Sterling and Euro.
you could perhaps ask someone in sunglasses to arrange this, they maybe know how the border thing works......
& GO on Helping Martin.
