Benefit Pub Quiz For Shannon defendants in Dublin

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday June 13, 2003 11:42author by Andrew - WSM Report this post to the editors

During the US war on Iraq and the afterwards during the occupation as many as 60 people were arrested or had files sent to the DPP for taking action against Irelands role in the war machine. Some are still waiting for verdicts, some have been found not guilty but quite a number have been convicted and fined for their part in opposing the war.

An injury to one is an injury to all

The Dublin Workers Solidarity Movement is organising a pub quiz to raise funds for the Shannon defendants (most of the arrests took place at Shannon airport where US warplanes were being refuelled). Come along and have fun while helping to ensure that the individual activists seized by the state do not have to cover costs of the fines and court cases out of their own pockets.

may as well get in some publicity for 2 events:

1) Anarchist Picnic this Saturday at 2.00pm in the Phoenix Park. Meeting up at the children's playground just inside the North Circular Entrance. Bring your own gear: food, football etc.

2)There's a benefit gig to help raise funds for some of the people. don't know who is organising it though (not the Whizzim).

This gig will take place in The Film Centre, Temple Bar with four performing groups on Tuesday June 16.

The war goes on - the truth is emerging - the anti-war movement was right - in Ireland the resisters face the Courts - and possible jail sentences - Among them are the 5 Catholic Workers who have helped expose our Government's collusion with Bush and Blair - They need our support!
