Striking is the only option left for Bombardier Aerospace's put upon workforce. Unions have exhausted all other outlets. Management at Bombardier Aerospace are intent on closing the factory anyway, by laying off 1,500 of its workforces, after already laying of 2000, is an indication that Bombardier Aerospace are winding down their operations in Belfast. Bombardier Aerospace workforce need to pull their fingers out and Strike, in order to hit management where it hurts. This is the only language management understand, Striking will have a direct effect on Bombardier's profits and also highlight the underhand way in which Bombardier are conducting work place negotiations. After the continued layoffs bombardier got unions to negotiate a work place contract detrimental to its work forces best interests, the work force accepted lower wages, worse working conditions in order to secure their jobs in the long term. Bombardier have clearly gone back on their word, despite the sacrifices of its workforce in terms of wages and working conditions and are intent on closing down the factory anyway. Now Bombardier are trying to renegotiate the previous contracts in the best interests of company profits and are threatening redundencies to get the new working contracts which further erode workers wages, rights and working conditions through. |

Robby, workers have every right to reject the blackmail of bosses - take a pay cut or be sacked. The position of the full timers - who are paid by the union and not by Shorts and who have sided with management a number of times against the workers, is a disgrace.
Wanting a pay rise is not greedy, its the only way to stop inflation, rent increases, mortage payment increases etc eating into your pay packet. Then we've got water charges, property tax and other service charges on the horizon.
Shorts management have used S11 to screw the workforce. Harland and Wolff shows that if you accept the bosses line about tightening your belt to stave off unemployment - you lose your trousers.
The opposite is true - fight for a decent pay rise and your more likely to be in a position to resist job losses.
As to 'selfish bosheviks' you are clearly on the wrong newswire - do a search on Daily Telegraph and click in. It should be more up your street...
DOES anyone else find it ironic that the Bombardier workers rejected the only option that would secure the jobs for all, in favour of some gain for those who let 20% of their colleagues get laid off?
They knew what the consequences would be if they turned down the union-backed offer, and their bluff was called.
So much for the solidarity among the so-called working class - self interest and uncompromising individual greed are some of the reasons why those 1,000 workers find themselves soon to be without a job, where if the workforce had not acted like selfish bolsheviks they could perhaps have helped their company to secure their jobs in the longer term.
Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!
No SP stewards in Shorts.
SPySPotter=liar,fool or cop?
SP shopstewards did.
We in the swp call a National strike - except for swp full-timers.
The work force of Bombardier Aerospace have nothing to lose by striking. It is clear bombardier are in the near future going to make them all redundant, so they're standards of living and financial security will be affected anyway, and they're salaries will be drasticall cut. Why not Strike now to ensure the Bombardier Aerospace pay proper redundency packages.
