Many of the people who write about boycotting Israel are avid readers and subscribers to Indymedia. If you are genuine in your real sentiment, you probably should not be using a computer, using a cell phone or if you get a little sick or maybe if have a life threatening desease you might be a hypocrite and use an Israeli developed drug. You are only selective in the Israeli or American products and services you do not wish to purchase. The cell phone was developed in Israel by Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel. Most of the Windows NT operating system was developed by Microsoft-Israel. The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel. Voice mail technology was developed in Israel. Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel. The technology for AOL Instant Messenger was developed in 1996 by four young Israelis. A new acne treatment developed in Israel, the ClearLight device, produces a high-intensity, ultraviolet-light-free, narrow-band blue light that causes acne bacteria to self-destruct - all without damaging surroundings skin or tissue. If Israel boycotted you, your lives would be less for it as would be the poor down trodden Palestinian Arabs who for the most part have depended for their livelihood for the last 100 years. Arabs emmigrated from all over the Middle East immediately prior and during the British Mandate to avail of jobs which were only available in Palestine because of the Jews. More than 600,000 of them migrated to what is today Modern Israel. In 1850 the total population of Jordan, Israel, Southern Syria and Lebannon combined was 141,000 with about a third being Jewish in an area that was originally nearly 10 times bigger than today's modern Israel. The population of Jerusalem was 64% Jewish and 20% non Arab Christian. These are FACTs Now the Arabs are trying to steal that land from the Jews. Unfortunately it is not the other way round as most of the ANTI ZIONIST (anti jews) propagate. Yes I will hear in the comments, the usual heckling about being a Zionazi, colonial aggressor, Sharon the War Criminal etc etc. That means all you have is hatred in your brains and hold no moral high ground because all you do on this site is demonize Israel. The truth is well documented, only peoples prejudice and lack of respect for Israel's rights that are cast in International law acknowledged in 1919 by the Arabs in what is known as the Feisal Weizman agreement confirming the Balfour Declaration, which was itself adopted by The league of Nations in 1921. From a religious perspective the redemption of Israel is also acknowledged in the Koran as well as the Bible holy to Christians and Jews. The propaganda of an Ancient Palestinian nation only materialiized in November 1970, 33 years ago. I would love for one of the Palestinian supporters who refer to the ancient homeland of Palestinians to provide a history book that can refer to the ancient history of the Palestinian people. Please I would like to be enlightened. Peace can never be achieved until Arabs recognise and agree to what their original leaders agreed to in 1919. Unfortunately this will not happen soon because hatred of Israel and America deflects their own pathetic leadership. The Palestinian cause is just a continuation of Arab aggression through a propaganda war using the Arabs of Gaza and the West Bank as pawns. No one mentions compensating the million jews who were forced to leave Arab countries between 1948-1951. They are only Jews right! |

The Zionists try and make Palestinians the people who never existed.
And if the Palestinians didn't exist until the second half of this century why was there any need for the Balfor declaration in 1919?
Your modesty its very endearing capitalist trait. Untill people can provide a history book which states that those pesky foreign palestinian immigrants were living in palestine/israel in the past, then it's obivious that they are foreign alien immigrants.
Its great to see Israelis and jews like yourself adopting our glorious mein fuhrers supremist ideology and social policies and practises. Race/state love is indeed a very beautiful thing as you israelis show us here, its heartwarming to see that you have learnt well off mein fuhrer, to see you incorporating our glorious fuhrers ideological practises and principles into everyday israeli life and in your dealing with palestinian immigrants. Mein fuhrer would be proud of the israeli state.
Well done all! We wouldnt be seeing so much zionist rubbish posted but for the very successful boycott of Israeli goods in Ireland and around Europe.
Remember:
Please look at where your food comes from. We call for a boycott of all Israeli goods. Check the label. If it’s from Israel, don’t buy it, complain! Write to the management. Stores are getting the message as more and more customers question the stocking of Israeli goods. Watch out for food such as hummus, sweet potatoes, onions, corn, mangoes, tinned fruit etc.:
Jaffa (oranges, grapefruits, lemons) Yarden (wine)
Tivali (health foods, meat substitutes) Elite (halva, sweets, coffee)
Osem (snacks, soups, nuts)
Ahava (Dead Sea beauty products)
Delta Galil (clothing supplied to M&S), Carmel (avocados, dates, salad vegetables
Gap, Donna Karen, Ralph Lauren, herbs & wine)
Calvin Klein & Hugo Boss, Playtex).
The Boycott should remain in place until the occupation is ended!
It's interesting to read your words, and I agree with much of what you say. What I don't understand, and what seems out of sync with the rest of your article, is the issue of the Palestinian homeland as valid only if they can lay claim to the country as an ancient homeland. Surely the rights of the people are valid regardless of historical evidence, which is always debatable.
MYTH: Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel.
Truth: For well over 2000 years, the land was called Palestine and its inhabitants, the Palestinians, by the rest of the world. Any search of textbooks published before Israel was established will reveal this very clearly. The issue of nationalism requires some comment.
The Philistines settled in the land of Canaan around 1250 BC, establishing 5 kingdoms: Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Gath, and Ekron. It was from the Philistines that Palestine received its name. Since Roman times, this land has been known as Palestine. The Palestinians of today, Muslims and Christians, trace their descent to all the peoples who have lived on this land from the time of the Canaanites. Natives in Palestine (who happen to speak Arabic and hold religions such as Bahai, Christian, Muslim, Jewish) like all native people anywhere in the world. In their natural state over thousands of years, they identified themselves with their villages, tribes and languages but not necessarily a nation in the modern sense of the 20th century.
Arab nationalism was bolstered to counteract Ottoman empire and Palestinian nationalism is part of the nationalism and development of new countries all over the previous colonial empires in Africa and Asia (witness Kenya or Tanzania or Nigeria, none of them had nationalism as seen today a hundred years ago).
This was true for all natives regardless of religion they had. Of course if they traveled outside of Palestine, they were recognized and identified as Palestinian by their dress, accent (Palestinian accent is very different than say Arabic accent in Egypt or Lebanon or Jordan), and their own self identification. This is analogous to Irish people versus English. Arab Nationalism and Palestinian nationalism have books written on them.
But whether people align themselves with local nationalism, pan-Arab nationalism, Islamism, Zionism, or communism, natives (regardless of their religion) of-course do not loose their rights to continue to live and prosper in their own land and country.
Ignorance and racism seem to be pre-requisites for Zionazis like Keith. As an example of how factually challenged Keith is look at the following: Intel have numerous R&D facilities around the world including Ireland (Shannon http://www.intel.com/jobs/ireland/sites/Shannon.htm) and Barcelona to name but two.
Israel has benefited from inward investment similar to Ireland, and the high-tech sector there is driven by American companies.
Israels biggest technical claim to fame is nearly bankrupting their economy in the 80s by spending 25% of their GNP trying to build their own equivalent of the American F16 ... of ycourse you don't hear too much about that particular "success" story now!
On the MMX front the lead software engineer is a Palestinian American born in Nablus who has been interned without trial for making donations to Islamic chartities http://news.com.com/2010-1071-996625.html.
Finally the Palestinians don't need to look back to the bible for justification to live in Palestine unlike 99.9% of Jews as they were living there until ethnically cleansed from their homes in 1948.
I haven't bought an Israeli orange or other produce in over two decades and will continue to boycott your racist pariah state until you comply with UN resolutions and withdraw to your pre-1967 borders without preconditions.
This is what Israel is good at Keith! First you steal from your friends in America and then you give it to them again up the ass! The only wonder is how they fall for this crap over and over again rather than pulling the plug on your spendthrift, corrupt facist state!
Israel violated a solemn agreement with the U.S. government.
NBC reported fully documented evidence that the government of Israel had sold to the People's Republic of China the most closely guarded secrets of fighter aircraft technology for an estimated price of $5 billion. The Chinese regime plans to use the technology in producing more than 200 fighters beginning in the near future. Intelligence experts say the technology will put China's fighter aircraft on a par with the latest and most advanced U.S. fighters. One feature of the technology enables fighter aircraft to evade most radar.
Intelligence experts are not sure how much China paid Israel for the technology. One expert said the fee is very significant, probably $5 billion and perhaps twice that much. The transfer began about 10 years ago when the Lavi, a project of enormous cost to the U.S. taxpayer, was finally scrapped.
An Extravagant Waste
The Lavi project is one of the most extravagant and wasteful deals the U.S. government carried out with Israel. The aircraft had no value whatever to U.S. defense needs and was built strictly for Israeli purposes, but the U.S. Treasury financed 90 percent of its total $1.5 billion price tag.
Israel turned the U.S. $1.5 billion boondoggle into a bonanza of at least $5 billion for its own coffers, and in the process bit hard the American hand that has been feeding Israel so generously for 40 years. The stolen technology will give China a decided edge over nearby Russia. It will also complicate America's long-standing mission to protect the security of South Korea and Japan.
Confronted recently about the secret and unlawful sale to China, the late Prime Minister Rabin answered limply: "I believe we can explain that."
Even though Yitzhak Shamir, leader of the Likud party, was prime minister when the duplicity began, Rabin could hardly claim innocence. He served Shamir as defense minister while the technology transfer was underway. As former chief of staff of Israeli military services and thoroughly experienced in Israel's intelligence activity, Rabin would almost certainly have been aware of the project.
In selling the technology to China, Israel violated a solemn agreement with the U.S. government. The United States gave the secret technology to Israel during its costly and ill-fated plan to produce a new fighter named the Lavi. It was donated under severe restrictions. The technology could be used only on the Lavi project and under no circumstances transferred to another government.
Midway in the ill-fated Lavi project, U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall offered an amendment to eliminate $250 million in funding, arguing that U.S. financing made no sense. If successful, the Lavi would be a direct competitor to the U.S. aircraft industry and take jobs from American workers. Rahall received the support of 39 other congressmen but that constituted less than ten percent of those voting. In a telling demonstration of the efficiency of the U.S. lobby for Israeli interests, those who voted for the Rahall amendment were thoroughly hassled by pro-Israel constituents.
The Lavi affair is not the first time Israel has sold secret U.S. technology to a potentially unfriendly power. Shamir transferred secret data to the Soviet Union that naval intelligence employee Jonathan Pollard, Israel's paid spy, had stolen from U.S. Defense Department files. Shamir made the transfer in an attempt to persuade the Soviet Union to release more Soviet Jews to Israel.
When Pollard was caught red-handed and put in jail, the state of Israel claimed it was a "rogue operation," unknown to officials at the cabinet level. Investigation showed that defense, military and other senior officials were fully informed. Pollard had two official Israeli handlers, and although promising full cooperation in the prosecution of the case, the Israeli government refused to order the extradition of either handler. Both were subsequently promoted?not punished. The Israeli government provided $200,000 toward legal costs encountered by Pollard and his wife.
The post-assassination drama in Israel is still unfolding and may produce a strong tide of support for conciliation with the Palestinians. Opinion polls show a 20 percent increase in support for the peace process.
This may reflect in part the stinging charges levelled against the Likud Party led by Netanyahu by Rabin's widow, Leah. Mrs. Rabin placed heavy blame for her husband's death on the Likud leader for failing to stop his followers from charging Rabin with being a "murderer," "traitor," and "Nazi." She said his harsh attacks had created an atmosphere conducive to violence.
When Netanyahu, along with colleagues, arrived at funeral rites to offer condolences, Mrs. Rabin said she found it very difficult to receive her husband's harsh critic with the customary handshake.
Perhaps the assassination, awful as it was, will spur the peace process. My estimate is that Israelis are now more hostile to Jewish settlements in the occupied territories than ever before.
Winston Churchill once warned that a new Stone Age may be ushered in on the "gleaming wings of science." Perhaps senseless barbarity will spur the delivery of justice in the Mideast.
Former Rep. Paul Findley (R-IL) is chairman of the Council for the National Interest.
Explain this one Keith if you can????
The case of the Iraqi Jews is the most well known, and is documented in several books (see Moshe Gat's The Jewish Exodus from Iraq 1948-1951 and Shlomi Hillel's Operation Babylon). The Zionist underground, backed by Mossad le-Aliya, the forerunner of the Israeli security service, sent agents provocateurs abroad to create conditions whereby Jews would leave their homes and come to Israel.
As a result of Mossad activities, in the space of a few weeks more than 120,000 Jews?almost the entire community in Iraq?were forced to leave their homes and possessions for Israel. Until the onset of Zionist-Palestinian conflict and the inflaming of political tensions by Britain's stooge regime under King Feisal and Prime Minister Nuri Said in Iraq, Jews had lived there without incident for 2,500 years, since the Babylonian exile from biblical Palestine.
being connected with microsoft is supposed to be some sort of a recommendation all of a sudden? i wasnt boycotting israel before, but i might now for having a hand in pushing microsoft trash. as to intel, you may all recall their lovely little idea of putting little digital id/ tracking things in all their chips to make it easier for business and government to hound you. as to the instant messenger a lot of computer security condemn it outright.
if it wasnt for the continuous amiercan cash IV drip the israelis would still be busy trying to invent the wheel anyway.
Please boycott the US, until it becomes less of a militaristic police state. Here in Seattle we have had problems with police attacks on peaceful demonstrators. We do NOT by any stretch of the imagination live in a democracy. http://seattle.indymedia.org/
I never read so many different distortions and inventions of history in my life. The usual zionazi stuff, invention of mossad conspiracies, quite amusing some of it, better than a half hour with Basil Fawlty.
It is amazing how people blinded by hate like to invent history to hate the Jew.
Even if anything you haters say is true, it is amazing how the Arabs are totally blameless in this conflict. Their desperation to sacrifice themselves because of their hopeless conditions purely caused by Al Yahud, those Jews who drove them from their land and stole their property.
Those evil zionists who are expansionists on 1% of the whole land mass of the Middle East. Those Jews who provide the only real jobs and economic sustenance in the whole of the middle east for just over hundred years. The Arabs who flocked there because there was the only place to find work. Many Arabs would only work for Jews because their own Arab brothers would not have a wage packet paid on a weekly basis but when working for the Jew they always got paid on time.
Jews who paid above market prices to the Arab land owners for land that was swamp and desert and then paid Arabs to help cultivate the land left desolate for nearly 2000 years. Now the Arabs want it! Or to be accurate steal it from the Jews and destroy the Jewish homeland and turn it back in a desert like the 21 other Arab States.
The dispute is not over land for the Arabs have more land than they know what to do with and their nature has been nomadic for thousands of years. It is about Jew Hatred that Indy Media is famous for. Criticism of Israel is fine when it is based of facts not lies, distortions, propaganda and plain invention. Israel is certainly not blamless but which functioning democracy is. Are Arabs of other countries living in prosperity and freedom, with civil rights, good education, gay rights, free press, etc. NO NO NO.
Jew Hatred is still alive and kicking in the world a la Indy Media.
One question Keith when you take a break from anti-semitic ranting ... if Israel has been so kind to the Arabs and life is sooooo good for them under the Israelis, why aren't they lining up to merge the West-bank into Israel?
dedicated to the memory of thirty-four fine young men who gave their lives on June 8, 1967, defending the USS Liberty against a sustained air and sea attack by the armed forces of the State of Israel. During the Six Day War between Israel and the Arab States, the American intelligence ship USS Liberty was attacked for 75 minutes in international waters by Israeli aircraft and
motor torpedo boats. Thirty-four men died and 172 were wounded.
Propegation of hate, incitement from the Arab leadership you dummy.
I met an Arab who has Israeli citizenship yesterday and we talked about the situation in Israel. He said quote " I have lived, worked with Jewish people I have no problem, I am an Arab but my people will screw anybody and everybody they can, Thanks to the Jews, the Arabs who live in Israel have better jobs, opportunities than anywhere else in the Middle East. I have an Israeli passport and even though I am an Arab I cannot go to any other Arab country because of that Passport".
Your arguement is flawed as well because most of the Arab population work in Israel and are employed by Israeli companies. The Palestinian Arabs are suffering because Israel has closed off their areas due to the severe threat of suicide attacks. Every time Israel eases up the restrictions the suicide attacks start up. As it will if this Road Map ever gets going.
Report finds discrimination against Israeli Arabs
3 July 1997
Web posted at: 00:55 GST, Dubai time (20:55 GMT)
JERUSALEM (AP) Discrimination against Israeli Arabs has increased in the past year, an Israeli civil liberties group said Tuesday, citing unfair hiring practices and discrepancies in government funding.
The gap between Israel's Jewish and Arab communities has grown since Benjamin Netanyahu was elected prime minister, said Uri Shavit, director of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel.
The group cited preferential services and government funding given to Jewish communities by the interior and housing ministries, both headed by members of Jewish religious parties.
Israeli Arab communities, by contrast, are treated by government ministries "as an obstacle to be circumvented," it said in its annual report.
Some Education Ministry grants are earmarked only for army veterans, the report said, making most Arabs ineligible because they are not drafted into Israel's army.
Some private employers also demand military service, the civil rights group said, citing an ice cream store that advertised for staff with an army record. "The criterion of army service is cynically used to prevent Arabs being accepted for jobs," it said.
The report by the organization of volunteer lawyers said such messages feed bigotry among Israeli youth. It cited a government study several months ago that found two-thirds of Jewish high school students opposed equal rights for Arabs.
More than a sixth of Israel's 5.8 million citizens are Arabs, and about 95 percent of Arab voters supported Netanyahu's opponent Shimon Peres in the May 1996 election.
The report also had harsh words for Israel's treatment of Palestinians.
It said the Shin Bet security agency still uses "violent and degrading interrogation techniques" against Palestinians, such as tying them in painful positions and sleep deprivation.
The association also criticized a bill that would prevent Palestinians from seeking compensation from the state for damages in the 1987-93 uprising against Israeli occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Still, it found some improvements. Shavit pointed to a loosening of Israel's closure of the West Bank and Gaza, which allows thousands of Palestinian laborers to return to jobs in the Jewish state.

Not only Arabs are discriminated against
Now, the situation in Israel is different. The country is waging war with the Arab world, and defeat in this war means death. Israel is spending millions on arms, building a defensive wall to protect itself against terrorists, ect. The Jews are threatening Arabs with nuclear weapons, but the Arabs have a little something going their way as well.
Israeli sociologists have calculated that Jews will make up only 45% of the entire population of Palestine by 2020. Eight million Arabs will live in Israel by that time, on the West Bank, and in the Gaza Strip. The expected number of the Jewish population will not exceed 6.3 million people. This is connected both with one of the world?s highest birth rates among Palestinians and with the reverse immigration from Israel. Israeli Jews are decreasing in their numbers each year.
The state has forgotten its promises. Furthermore, the state is limiting its own citizens' rights. This concerns immigrants from the former USSR.
Here is a recent example. A group of young Israelis, Russians by nationality, wanted to organize a Slavic union in their new fatherland. However, Israeli officials refused to register such an organization. The initiators of the Slavic union claimed that nobody gave them a reason to explain why there cannot be a union of Slavs in Israel. They said that there were thousands public organizations in Israel, including ones based on ethnic principles.
There are Jews, Arabs, and immigrants from the East and West living in Israel. They all have their own organizations, both political and public. However, there is not group to stand up for the interests of Slavs, despite of the fact that there are so many Russian Jews living in Israel.
It is common knowledge that over a million people immigrated to Israel from the former Soviet Union. But how many gentiles are there among them? About 250 thousand. The spiritual leader of the ultra-religious Shas party, Rabbi Ovadja Joseph, said that there are very few "real" Jews among the Russians. The rabbi definitely means those Jews that have Jewish mothers. Jewish fathers or even Jewish grandfathers give a person the right to "return" to Israel. Nevertheless, this person will not be considered a Jew in Israel.

Morocco has occupied Western Sahara since 1976.In defiance of the international community, Morocco continues to violate international law. Thus, in addition to the serious abuses of human rights already committed, it has launched into a campaign of repression against Saharawi human rights defenders who have dared to make use of their rights to free expression, opinion, association and demonstration. This campaign of repression has taken several forms:
forced transfer to Moroccan towns
unfair dismissal from work
arbitrary arrest
unfair trials
These Saharawi defenders of human rights are determined to make known the serious human rights abuses, qualified as crimes against humanity, which have been committed in Western Sahara. Among these serious human rights abuses:
throwing Saharawi civilians in free fall out of Moroccan army helicopters;
burying Saharawi civilians alive in mass graves;
bombing camps of Saharawi civilians with prohibited bombs;
abducting hundreds of Saharawi civilians
arresting thousands of Saharawi civilians
A real campaign of genocide has been committed against the Saharawi people. The consequence of this genocide has been the suffering and exile of thousands of Saharawis[80% of Saharawis live in refugee camps in Algeria due to Moroccan ethnic cleansing].Since 1976 Moroccan government has systematically banished the indigenous Saharawi population into Algeria while settling loyal Moroccans in Western Sahara, therefore nowadays Moroccans constitute the majority of the population in Western Sahara. Today more than 170,000 refugees live in Algeria surrounded by hostile desert and away from home without any prospect of returning to their motherland. Another legacy of the occupation are more than one million mines left in the sands of the Sahara Desert.Oppression of the indigenous Saharawi population and illegal immigration of Moroccans to Western Sahara must be stopped for the sake of humanity. It’s time for action and excuses are no longer acceptable.

... and I find financing fascism, warmongering and genocide are not to my liking. Cellphones are an annoyance-I don't want one. Bill Gates/Microsoft is such a global monopoly it is virtually impossible to use a computer without it-another reason to oppose globalization-and I don't own a computer anyway, my friend is letting me use this one. The problem with Microsoft, Israeli drugs etc. is one and the same problem of imperialism/globalization-America and Israel want to rule the world so they become the global Mafia and get into some good'ol racketeering in software, tech. and medicines. All we can do is boycott what we still have choices in and continue the fight against the U.S./Israeli global Mafia(globalization). So I choose to boycott any more products from U.S. and Israel.
