Everybody is ok but very tired and dazed from lack of sleep, things are fairly crazy, the police are very heavy handed using incredible amounts of tear gas/concussion grenades/rubber bullets/water cannons/battoning people, one activist has been slightly injured from a tear gas canister but she is ok. Some of the crew were part of the bridge action affinity group where an English activist based in barcelona (some of you will know him from treeclimbing in ecotopia, he has asked not to be named). After the cop cut the rope where the activists were suspended he FUCKED OFF ie drove off in a hurry in the police car leaving the rest of the affinity group and one cop to hold the rope where the other activist was suspended on. (i read on some indymedia report that he was later arrested??) One Irish person doing legal support and another person doing medical support had to try and get him out of the river by themselves and received no help from the cops. They had to administer first aid with little equipment. Cops refused to let an ambulance through and it took an hour or so before the helicopter arrived. I think everyone at the action was arested but were later released. The Irish crew in Lausanne at the minute arent being allowed into Chuv hospital to see the activists but i think there are other people with him. Apparently there will be press conference today at 12 from the hospital. The rest of the Irish crew were at the Bourdonnette camp which was raided yesterday. They had been staying here after moving from the VAAAG camp. Most people (several hundred) at the camp were 'arrested' (whether they were arrestables or not)and detained for hours having their passport details taken by the cops, but were later released. Due to a bus/train strike beginning tomorrow it's not certain whether those planning to return (some will be staying on)to Ireland can actually do so, they're trying to get to paris tonight in order to make the ferry tomorrow, the next ferry doesn't leave until the 9th. I don't have any details about any of the GR crew or whether they were at the Bourdonnette camp or not. Swis news dispatch about bridge incident Legal team press release |

& come back safely :-)
All good busers now accounted for and safe.
In Geneva.
Should touch the green grass of home on wed or friday, depending on train strike.
Full reports to follow....
bah.... just to tell the rest of the bussers and all the beutiful people that all is well.... the camp I stayed in in Geneve last night was buzzed by the copper chopper a couple time but apart from lack of sleep I cant complain... Will carry on bussing
"The wheels on the bus go round round round, round round round, round round round,
The fence at the summit comes down down down
All day long......."
a long vehicle _________a long vehicle.
all we need is a long vehicle, a long vehicle ....TO GO.
If you can't write, please don't. What is up here as a story about a group of Irish is completely incoherent. Take your time and not be 'oh so excited about getting back to the convergence centre'.
Regards,
don
you good busers are a bunch of jokers. You are the types that go to these summits to follow the hassle from the Black Bloc. You're Black Block roadies!
What about the thousands and thousands of people that closed down the Swiss/French border? what about the thousands that participated in the largest demo Switzerland has ever seen?
you good bus people dont care you're only interested in the trouble.
Ohh, can you feeeeel the narrow-mindedness!?!
Black-block managed to block not 1 (as the organisations did *cough GR/SWP cough*) but 2 bridges in Geneva.
With less then half the number of people the 'organised' bridge had, I must add.
Evil buser.
No one has said anything bad about the large protest at the border, so dont go blabbering on as if some has.
That was a great achievment. Especially the end. When everyone had to walk back the 7k into town again, after they found out that there were no speeches or assemblies.
Correct me if Im wrong, but on the evil bus the general vibe on the border protest wasnt so great. People complained how there was no rally point and no confrontation with the cops.
'Largest demo in Switzerland'.
Ehhh...no. Maybe if you left out the Nazi demos of the 1930-40's.
Just to say a big massive huge thank you to all you lovely good bus people. Evil plane people are home and safe and sound. Hope ye make it home without too much hassle from the train strike.
