International Palestinian Solidarity Day

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Sunday June 01, 2003 19:28author by Aron Baker - ISMauthor email baker_aron at hotmail dot comauthor address Limerickauthor phone 087 2895036 Report this post to the editors

Thurs 5th June and Fri 6th June

Please support these events culminating in our Friday night gathering.

To those concerned,

Thursday the 5th of June is International Palestinian Solidarity Day. Here in Ireland activists and citizens of Ireland will be marking this day not only with a continous presence in front of the Isreali Embassy on Thursday, from early till late but also with an evening / night time vigil on Friday night. We would hope that everyone who can give us a few minutes or hours of their time will come down and support this worthwhile cause. Events should commence around 8 on friday night and continue until the wee hours. It is hoped that all who participate will be able to leave their own message to Isrealis or Palestinians. We hope to erect a type of prayer flag on which all these messages can be displayed. In addition to this there will be other activities going on and with any luck there will be a Food not Bombs contingent to keep us nourished and music since it is friday night.

There will be brief speeches by various individuals including members of ISM who have seen first hand the situation in the West Bank and Gaza.

Friday nights activities are being organised by concerned citizens and members of ISM.

What do you normally do on a friday night? Get dressed up and go to the pub before hitting some trendy club? Enjoy a quite night in with your other half and watch the latest DVD? Work? Why not blow it all off and do something different, join us for a new experience and help make a difference.

ISM is the volunteer group which Rachael Corrie, Brian Avery and Tom Hurndall were working with when Rachael was killed and Brian and Tom were shot.

With this action we hope to highlight the plight of the Palestinian people at the hands of the Israelis and the IOF. We want the Irish government and the Israeli ambassador to act on our behalf and call on the Israel government and IOF to respect Palestinians as human beings, to respect human rights, to stop killing, maiming and displacing Palestinians.
