 U.S. Peace Activist Speaks in Support of Ploughshares on Trial Kathy Kelly will be speaking Monday June 2nd. 8 pm. in the Confraternity Room, Rewdemptrist Monastery, South Circular Rd. Limerick. Kathy spent the first Gulf War 1991 in a peace camp on the Iraq-Kuwait border and the following 6 months in Iraq. She returned to the U.S. to found the anti-sanctions busting "Voices in the Wilderness" organisation. She will spend Monday in The Ennis-Kilrush-Limerick arer doing pre-trial organinsg work for the Pit Stop Ploughshares who are due to go to trial in Kilrush on June 24th. For more information contact Ennis based organiser Fiona Wheeler 087 644 7246 Kathy Kelly is a co-founder of Voices in the Wilderness, the first U.S. grassroots organization to bring activists into Iraq to witness the effect of sanctions, to bring food and medicine to the people of Iraq and to educate the public upon their return. Her fierce dedication to peace has put her in the line of fire in hot spots throughout the world during the past two decades, and her stubborn desire to make a point cost her nine months in prison in 1988. This stemmed from a Missouri protest in which she repeatedly trespassed on nuclear missile sites and turned down probation. Her long-term work for peace has earned her a reputation as a self-declared pacifist who is anything but passive.
