Urgent call for support from public

As the residents of Dominick street we demand that Dublin city council listen to our concerns. So far they have not!Over 11 children have been knocked down this year by cars or trucks. Our children have nowhere to play, they are forever injurying themselves, the play areas are a disgrace! We demand that the council make the road pedestrianised or at least install speed bumps on the street immediately as the whole street is a residential with a very high number of young children who have no public space to play in other than their street. The residents of Dominick Street are holding their own Reclaim the Street Protest on Sat May 24, all day, from 9am on Dominick Street. We ask the public to support us & make their way down to Dominick street on saturday to send a clear message to the city council!

Please everyone who can go down today get down! Dominick street is the street that links bolton st to Parnell st opposite entrance to ILAC centre. I was protesting with them on Friday, it is mainly moms and children, they really need support from all anti car activists!Cheers!

Alright, whats the bleedin score, Angie is a shoplifter.

Strolled up and down the street today for the guts of two hours with the ressies from the hood. Good buzz, apart from McDonalds givin free tea. I didnt have any of it but the general opinion of it was that it was shite. They were happy to get some RTS people down for moral support, and likewise we were happy to see them taking inspiration (esp. the chisellers) from our street partay two weeks ago.

So next Friday the Critical Mass is going to head down there for a while for some more road blocking.

General opinion among the walkers was that they were sick of being fucked around by the Corpo. Loads of other gafs have been done up, and a couple people cited the example of Hardwicke Street which is now all pedestrianised and the like. If there then why not here.

The heads will be out there again in the coming days. Good on them.

Up the flats!

The "persian" URL above has nothing to do with reclaiming streets.

And it contains material definitely not suitable for "De Chisellers".

Finally, it's run by a big corporate operation, so triple shame on whoever posted it!

Dominic residents are protesting about the volume of traffic going down their road and the parking of non-residents cars because of accidents involving children over the past while, they want the council to take action sooner rather then later and will continue the protest over the next week.

I heard about this on thursday, late notice for us rts'ers, but we were delighted to hear about it. Some of us were over at convergence or working so we couldn't get down there for very long.

I arrived at 10.00 on Saturday morning it was drizzling and about 16 people parents and kids with a few banners of assorted size (aswell as larger ones hung off the balconies) were walking up an down the road slowly ,not entirely blocking the road but slowing up the traffic alot, there were two or three police there. The police seemed to do nothing but ensure that if there were kids protesting that they had parents with them as the walked down the middle of the road

Dominick street which comes out perpendicular to Parnell str., opposite the side entrance to the Ilac centre, Cycleways is at the bottom corner of the street. The street has 4 story old flats on both sides, and then some older georgian buildings with flats and buildings at the very end of the road.

I talked to a few of the mothers they said that thirteen kids had been knocked down in the past year, and they were going to block the road until something was done about it. (I was just there, Monday 1:00 No-one there but I think there were supposed to have a meeting with police some day this week)

The road is now one of the main routes into town after the traffic was moved from another street at the residents request(Grandby row or Federick str?, and has now moved onto a street which has even more residents and risk of accident on it, their is a further up in direction of capel street king inns (im guessing )str which may be a better solution as it has very few buildings residential or otherwise facing on to it.

The residents of the flats also have their own carparks off street so all the cars which line boths sides of the street or non-residents who use pay and display. These cars block the view and increase the risk of kids getting knocked down and increase the number of cars on street and altough there is a lack of car park space in the city theres no reason for these cars to be parked here.

I didn't get quite enough info on the councils reponse but they had previously surveyed and costed the possibilties of changing the street or adding speed bumps but have concerns about cost and have done very little about it.

they had a anther protest on sunday and i think someone from food not bombs tried to help out that day and hopefully they'l put up a report of that.
