Anti-Fascists have eye on Barrett

category national | miscellaneous | news report author Friday May 16, 2003 17:40author by AFA Ireland - Anti Fascist Actionauthor email afa at ireland dot comauthor address C/o PO Box 3355, Dublin 7, Ireland. Report this post to the editors

Press Release on Justin Barrett's latest self-promotion ploy about setting up a 'political movement'.

Press Release Friday 16th May

Anti-Fascists have eye on Barrett

Anti Fascist Action (AFA) today responded to a press report that far-right
political activist Justin Barrett is planning to launch an anti-immigrant
"political movement".

Jo Tobin, a spokesperson for AFA, said: "We have been monitoring the
activities of Justin Barrett for a number of years; it was AFA who first
released the information to the press, last October, about his links to
fascist parties in Germany and Italy. Mr Barrett will be aware of the
consequences these revelations had on his campaign. If he persists now
further action will be taken against him."

Press reports about Barrett's proposed "political movement" reveal
clearly his racist, reactionary and ignorant views. He openly reduces
the immigration debate to one about "blacks" or "coloureds" and "whites"
as well as claiming that the only people he defines as "Irish" are those
who are born on this island and are "Catholic and Gaelic". Barrett's
so-called "movement" appears to be one which would marry insular
right-wing nationalism to racism and views on sex and "family values"
which have been long rejected by the Irish people.

Ms Tobin continued: "It also has to be questioned to what extent there
is a "political movement", no other political figures or groups have
publicly backed up Barrett's plans. Mr Barrett's main talent is for
self-promotion. This statement comes at the same time as the re-launch
of his book and just a year before the local elections."

Anti Fascist Action has in the past taken political and physical action
against groups promoting racist and fascist views in Ireland, and this
policy still remains in force.

Justin Barrett is his own worst enemy. Progressives should be delighted that the leader of the far right in Ireland is a Jug Eared junior accountant with a voice that D'unbelievables couldn't invent.
Why AFA get worked up about this git I don't know, he's such an easy target. They should be more concerned by 'mainstream' right wingers like Moore McDowell and John Deasy and charlie mccreevey.

Barrett was leader of the no to nice campaign because the media decided he was. Build them up so you can pull them down. The whole Nazi-outing episode looked distinctively like a set up that was well prepared in advance.

In the Sunday times today there was a piece on Justin Barret, Apparently he's trying to set up a political party with an aim to control immigration (all immigration, not just blackies) Apparently Ireland has a right to remain pure and celtic or something. he said something about pursueing geurilla tactics in his campaigns (don't tell george w... he might misunderstand)

The funniest thing was that the head of the "Immigration control platform" was contacted and even they don't want anything to do with him

How did this crypto-fascist become the "head" of the "No to Nice" campaign ? He led the "No" campaign right up to the time it was revealed he had been at fascist rallies in Germany but failed to notice swasticas on the walls or the nazi salute?

Very convenient! When I first saw him object to Europe I was surprised because it is exctly the type of fascist dictatorship he would love. So why object to Nice? So he could later fall when the "No" campaign had entrusted him all their prize crystal to carry, it appears in 20/20 hindsight!

A crashing fall of the "leader" of the "No" campaign left the way open for a definitive "yes" to the right-wing pro-US countries coming into Europe. The New Europe Order.

There was somthing very fish about the "No" campaign when this muppet was allowed lead Greens, Sinn Fein, Labour and others into a sacrafice fall. Any chance of a tribunal or do we need a tribunal to know that facing an economic collapse that all parties knew about it would be a bitter victory to achieve a "No" and then take all the flak for the economic collapse of the past year.

So now we have refuelled the Yamks and voted for a new Europe like they asked, there should be endless prosperity, like they promised.....right? Wrong.

Justin Barrett was voted 5 times more popular than Bertie Ahern today in a radio phone in poll this morning.
That says a lot more for berties unpopularity than it does for justins popularity, echoes of Jean Marie Le Pen

On Young Fianna Fail people, I had the fortune (of some kind) to share a house with a aspirational career politician with the Fianna Fail party, discussions on charlie Haughey were limited to statements from the FF that "charley's a great man, look what he did for the country"
When i asked him if he would support an amierican nuclear attack on Iraq he said "yeah, sure they'd have to have a good reason for doin it"

The age of the kids going on with this shit. The guy who posted first with paens of praise to Dev is 15 for God's sake... I am used to old guys down the country barking rabidly when you merely point out that Dev is DEAD. A long time ago. It must have been a great personality cult though.

My Da has a good saying on Dev - Hitler sent his enemies to be gassed, Stalin sent his to the salt mines, but Dev did it much better - he merely starved the poor until they had no choice but to leave the country.

This is the report about Barrett. He has relauched the book and a number of journalists have a copy, so there is likely to be a bit of coverage of it's contents.

I am posting this report because the Indo site requires registration and this give background to the above PR.

No more immigrants, writer warns
Alison O Connor, Political Correspondent

Anti-abortion campaigner Justin Barrett has warned of the dangers of allowing large numbers of immigrants into Ireland saying they could alter the nation "irreversibly".

"We are and will remain a relatively tiny nation for the foreseeable future and it would take very little to upset that delicate balance which preserves our nation and with it the inheritance of future generations," said Mr Barrett who has just republished his privately printed book "The National Way Forward".

The real racists, he said, are those who insist that Ireland has not taken its share of immigration "because they are the ones who are not counting the whites and are measuring the issue in terms of coloureds."

His tome was much sought after by his opponents for possible political ammunition during the last Nice Treaty campaign. However no copy of the book could be found.

Now, as he hopes to form a new "political movement" Mr Barrett said last night he had republished the book, so that it could be freely available.

The book, part of a vision for that new political movement, calls for a Republic which is "Catholic, gaelic and free". He said: "People were saying there were terrible, awful things in it during the referendum campaign. The point of publishing is that it has been made available and no one can say it is hidden." Mr Barrett examines the X case controversy as well as giving his views on the European Union, the economy Catholicism and Irish Nationhood.

During the October referendum, Mr Barrett found himself involved in controversy after it was revealed he had attended meetings of far-right activists in Germany. In a chapter entitled "A Country of Our Own" Mr Barrett said the immigration debate had given rise to the wildest pronouncements about the re-emergence of fascism.
